Celebrate National Catfish Day in Style at Wobbly Boots BBQ!

Although August is designated as National Catfish Month, we get a sneak preview of that upcoming celebration with National Catfish Day happening this week on Thursday, June 25. The best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about catfish, but maybe it should be!

Catfish, Wobbly Boots-Style
Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach has quite a few savory seafood dishes on the menu. Two of these irresistible offerings have catfish as the "star of the plate."

Catfish BLT
Here's a sandwich that's loaded with mouthwatering flavor! We take a southern-style catfish filet, coat it in specially seasoned cornmeal, and fry it to a beautiful golden brown. That is served up on a hoagie with hickory-smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and Cajun mayo.

Catfish Dinner
This hearty plate consists of 2 delicious southern-fried catfish filets served with tartar sauce, a slice of lemon, Texas toast, and one of our savory homestyle side dishes.

Did You Know...
There are many reasons to order catfish from the menu at Wobbly Boots BBQ. The first and most obvious is that it tastes delicious! Some added benefits include the fact that catfish are high in protein and contain no carbohydrates. This particular variety of fish is also an excellent source of B Vitamins and phosphorus.

After doing some research, we found a few more fun facts about catfish that you might be interested to know.

  • Catfish do not have scales! All catfish (and there are nearly 2,900 species of them) are either naked or armored.
  • While catfish are bottom feeders, farm-raised catfish are taught to eat pellets that float on top of the water.
  • In the Southern United States, slang names for catfish include "mud cat," "polliwogs," and "chuckleheads."
  • According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest catfish ever caught happened on June 18, 2011. Richard Nicolas Anderson caught a blue catfish at Kerr Lake, Buggs Island, Virginia that weighed in at 143 pounds! (Now that would make a LOT of Catfish BLT sandwiches!)
  • Legend says that giant man-eating catfish live deep below Bagnell Dam! Divers swear that this is just a myth. (Or is it...) The largest catfish ever caught in the Lake of the Ozarks (unless someone has beaten this record since we last looked) weighed in at 103 pounds.

More Seafood at the Boot
Catfish isn't the only type of seafood found on the menu at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. In addition to the best hickory-smoked BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will also find these tasty treats.
  • Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
  • Crab Stuffed Mushrooms
  • Smoked Salmon Salad
  • Fried Shrimp Dinner
  • Brown Sugar Salmon Dinner
  • Fried Shrimp Po' Boy
  • Blackened Salmon Sandwich
  • Smoked Salmon Wrap

Whether you decide to celebrate National Catfish Day this Thursday, June 25, 2020, wait for National Catfish Month in August, or simply come in any time to give the catfish a try at our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant, the "when" doesn't really matter. As long as you come by at some point (hopefully soon) to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for these amazing dishes, that's really all that matters. You're going to love them!
