BBQ Is The Hottest New Competitive Sport!!

Did you know that BBQ is rising to the top as one of the nation's fastest-growing competition sports? That's right! Die-hard grillers from around the nation are going head to head to see who can cook the best chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and brisket.

Competition Details

Competitions are held all over the States, several times per year. They last an entire weekend. Everyone checks in to the competition site (normally a campground or a park) on Thursday and sets up camp. Friday is a full day of preparation - marinating, rubbing, injecting, and test-cooking. Saturday morning, everyone is up and starting cooking early so they can be ready to turn in their perfected meats on time, and then the judging takes place. Saturday evening is busy with a high-spirited awards ceremony to cap off the weekend. On Sunday, everyone packs up and heads home, ready to relax and recoup before hitting the next competition.

Judging

The judges take their duties very seriously. All judges must go through a day-long certification process, and must complete the Official KCBS Barbecue Judges' Oath before judging each competition:

"I do solemnly swear
To objectively and subjectively evaluate
Each Barbecue Meat
That is presented
To my eyes,
my nose,
my hands,
and my palate.
I accept my duty
To be a [name of contest] judge,
So that truth,
justice,
excellence in barbecue,
and the American Way of Life,
May be strengthened and preserved forever."

It's The Real Deal!

Like the judges, the participants in these competitions take it very seriously - as well they should! The Barbecue Championships Series boast a grand prize of $75,000! Die-hard competitors will participate in up to 40 competitions per year. Some champions use their money to start their own BBQ restaurant or catering business, and some choose to maintain their traveling lifestyle and continue competing for the love of great BBQ and great memories.

If you feel inspired to try your own hand at competition BBQ and need some inspiration, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse can help! We may not be actively involved in the competition circuit, but that doesn't mean we don't know how to make some mean brisket! Come by and see us for the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Don't forget that we offer the best BBQ catering at the Lake, so we can also bring the party right to your front door. We require a final head count one week prior to the event, so call us today!!

Dog Days Hosts The Canine Cannonball This Weekend!!

Looking for something fun to do this weekend?? Our sister restaurant, Dog Days Bar and Grill, is hosting the annual Canine Cannonball June 6-8!

Man's best friend will soar through the air and make a huge splash in competition to see who is the top dog. Canine Cannonball is a DockDogs-sponsored, dock-jumping competition that has been an annual event at the Lake of the Ozarks since 2007. Dog Days Bar & Grill, located at 1232 Jeffries Road on land or at the 19-mile marker on the water, has been the lakeside host of the Cannonball since its inception. This furry aerial competition is a crowd favorite at Dog Days and has attracted an estimated 5,000 spectators on each day of the competition.

"Canine Cannonball is an exciting event for families and dog lovers," said Dog Days owner and event organizer Mark Barrett. "It's outdoors, it's on the Lake, it has a bunch of loveable dogs showing off their athletic abilities and if you like music, bands are playing live at Dog Days. It is the perfect fit for people who are traveling to the Lake and looking for a fun way to spend the weekend."

The concept of dock jumping as a performance sport for dogs originated in the U.S. when dock workers would bet on how far their dogs could jump into the water. Since 2000, Dock Dogs has been the independent governing and sanctioning body for regional, national and international dock-jumping events for dogs. DockDogs tracks each official jump of all competitors and dogs are ranked nationally. The sport is both serious business and a lot of fun for both dog and owner. Dock-jumping athletes and their owners can sometimes train together for a half hour or more each day in their respective events to hone their skills.

All Canine Cannonball activities are free for spectators. Money raised at the event through donations will benefit the Dogwood Animal Shelter, a no-kill shelter in Osage Beach. The Shelter will also have pets available for adoption on-site during the three-day meet. According to Dogwood Animal Shelter officials, these pets have been given all required shots at the time of adoption.

Dogs will compete in a couple different categories, including Big Air, Extreme Vertical, and Speed Retrieve. In between rounds, swing by Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for the BEST BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks!

This is one of the best family friendly events at the Lake of the Ozarks! Whether you're a full-time Lake of the Ozarks resident or you're on vacation, join us for an unforgettable weekend!

Don't forget that we offer the best BBQ catering at the Lake, so we can also bring the party right to your front door. We require a final head count one week prior to the event, so call us today!!
