Turkey-Lovers Unite - June is Your Month!

One would think that turkeys would be recognized closer to Thanksgiving, but it turns out that National Turkey Month is actually smack dab in the middle of the year during June. Maybe it's set up that way so that you have the extra incentive to enjoy this delicious bird both in the fall and in the spring.

If you've had a chance to taste the turkey we serve up on a daily basis at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach, you don't need any extra encouragement to order it. As one of our most popular hickory-smoked meats at the Lake of the Ozarks, turkey plays an important part in many of the mouthwatering menu items we proudly serve.

Bring on the Turkey
Our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant proudly serves up 100% white meat turkey breast that has been rubbed, hickory-smoked, and sliced to perfection right here at the Boot. Not only does this bird taste fantastic, but turkey is also low in fat and high in protein, making it a healthy meal as well. Other benefits include being an excellent source of iron, zinc, phosphorous, potassium, and B vitamins.

You may choose to enjoy this savory meat as your main dish next to one of our homestyle side dishes, either on a Smoked Meat Plate or as a BBQ Sandwich on a bun. Another option is to give it a try in one of our many turkey-filled menu items.

Cowboy Cobb
The king of salads! A platter of crisp greens generously topped with smoked turkey and ham, crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, cheddar-jack cheese, and Provolone cheese.

Loaded Baker
A huge baked potato stuffed with your choice of turkey, pork, beef, or ham and that's topped with crumbled bacon, green onions, and cheddar-jack cheese.

Texas Style Club
Turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, Provolone cheese, and avocado mayo served between two pieces of wheatberry bread.

Grilled Turkey Wrap
The Original Wobbly Boots wrap! Lightly grilled turkey breast served in a warm wheat tortilla stuffed full of bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar-jack cheese, and ranch dressing.

Turkey Avocado Wrap
Hickory-smoked 100% breast of turkey served in a wheat tortilla with avocado, avocado mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar-jack cheese.

Turkey Reuben
Grilled marbled rye bread, warm sauerkraut, 1000 island dressing, melted Swiss cheese, and house-smoked lean turkey breast.

Open Faced Smoked Turkey
The way Mom used to make it! Delicious smoked turkey served open-faced on white bread with smashed potatoes, turkey gravy, and green beans.

Don't be one of those people that saves turkey as a seasonal treat once a year on Thanksgiving. If you do, you're missing out on a delicious and healthy meal that should be enjoyed all year long. (Especially the way we prepare it at Wobbly Boots BBQ!) Head on over to our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant soon and order up one of these amazing turkey dishes. You're bound to fall in love with turkey all over again!

Find the Best Happy Hour at the Lake of the Ozarks at the Boot!

There are quite a few Happy Hours going on around the lake area, but the best Happy Hour at the Lake of the Ozarks happens weekly at the Boot! Why do we believe that our special hours are so much better at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse? We're so glad you asked! Read on to find out all about why you need to join us for Happy Hour real soon.

6 Days a Week
Not only can you enjoy Happy Hour at Wobbly Boots BBQ during the week, but we also throw in a bonus day over the weekend with quite a few bonus hours! Every Monday through Friday from 3-6 pm you're welcome to come in and unwind by taking advantage of some great food and drinks specials.

Then, each Sunday we host Happy Hour all day long! Yes, you read that right. From the time we open at 11:00 am until we close down Sunday night, Happy Hour pricing is in full effect!

Happy Hour Drinks
Whether you're in the mood for an ice-cold beer, a glass of wine, or a masterfully mixed cocktail, we've got you covered. Drink specials during Happy Hour at the Boot include $1 off all well drinks, wine, and draft beer. Our fully-stocked bar is filled with all kinds of tempting refreshments for you to enjoy, including 21 different beers on tap, and during Happy Hour, you get a great deal on them as well!

Happy Hour Food
Once you step inside and get a whiff of those savory, hickory-smoked meats cooking, you're bound to be hungry! You're welcome to order off of our regular menu, but you might want to take advantage of some great Happy Hour food discounts on some very popular (and very delicious) items.

  • Pulled Pork Sliders - 3 for $6
  • Shaved Prime Rib Sliders - 3 for $9
  • Large Pulled Pork Nachos - $2 off

Sit Anywhere You Like
Unlike many other establishments, our Happy Hour specials are offered to everyone in the restaurant, not just the folks bellying up to the bar. If you happen to come in for a meal with the family or have a big group of friends that you need a large table to accommodate, you can still order Happy Hour items, no matter where you are seated.

Even if you come in on your own, you're bound to run into a few regulars sitting around the bar. If you're willing to strike up a conversation with a stranger, that stranger will very likely be a friend by the time you leave!

Catch a Game
Another great thing about heading to the Boot for Happy Hour is the fact that it's the best place to watch sports at the Lake of the Ozarks. Quite often there's a great game on during Happy Hour, especially on Sundays. With 21 TVs and a giant projection screen behind the stage, there's never a bad seat in the house and there are always plenty of screens to catch all the games.

We try our very best to make everyone happy every moment they spend at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant & bar, but during Happy Hour, we give you a bit more incentive than usual to have a great time! The next time you're in the mood for a break from your regular day, come on over and spend some time with us here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.

Wobbly Boots' Fried Pickles - Kind of a Big Dill!

Fried pickles began as a delicacy throughout the southern United States. This delicious treat eventually headed north and we all fell in love with the taste too. Wobbly Boot Roadhouse found our own way to cook up this fantastic dish that makes it a "must-try" item from the appetizer list.

Our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant serves up a half pound of pickle chips per order. They are hand-breaded in our specially seasoned flour, fried to a golden brown, and served with a delicious Chipotle Ranch dipping sauce. Either as a snack, an appetizer, or side dish, the fried pickles at Wobbly Boots BBQ are an excellent choice.

Who Created the Fried Pickle?
As with many origin stories, there is more than one. There is a record of a "French Fried Pickle" recipe being published as early as 1962 for the Food Editors Conference in New York.

Another popular story, which seems to have come about much too late to be the original, is from the Hollywood Cafe out of Hollywood, Mississippi. Their tale from 1969 begins with a crowded restaurant and a cook without enough catfish to feed them all. In desperation, he reached for the industrial-sized jar of dill pickles that was handy, rolled them in the catfish batter, dropped them in the fryer, and served them to the patrons. They were an immediate hit.

The most popular story, which seems to fit into a more plausible time frame, is out of Atkins, Arkansas. In 1963, Bernell "Fatman" Austin owned the Duchess Drive-In across the highway from the Atkins Pickle Plant. (FYI: Atkins is known as the pickle capital of Arkansas!) Staring across the street at the pickle plant, Bernell was inspired to create a recipe.

That particular recipe is a well-guarded, family secret to this day. You can now only get a taste of Bernell's original creation once a year at the annual Picklefest held each May in Atkins. The family dishes up about 2,500 orders of the "Fatman's Original Fried Dill Pickles" at every festival and the money raised is used for scholarships and charities that Bernell supported.

Sometime in the late 1990s, three high school friends brought the southern deep-fried pickle to the Minnesota State Fair, calling them the "Preferred Pickle." They were so popular, the same three friends began manufacturing them under KWF Foods and selling them to the foodservice industry.

The Boot's Are the Best!
Regardless of how the fried pickle found its way to the Midwest or who actually invented it, the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks has perfected it! The next time you have a craving for some Wobbly Boots BBQ, add an order of our Fried Pickles to the mix. We just know you are going to love them!

How to Convince the Gang to Have BBQ For Dinner

"What's for dinner?" is a question you ask yourself daily, and when there's a group of people involved in the decision, it can be very difficult to all agree on the same thing. The best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks is always an excellent choice any time you're hungry. If you happen to have someone in your group that needs a bit of convincing, the following reasons to dine on Wobbly Boots BBQ should win them over.

It's Delicious!
Well... obviously! Still, not all BBQ restaurants are created equal so some people that have had a less than pleasant experience at one may be hesitant. That's not the case at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach! Our award-winning, hickory-smoked BBQ is always a crowd-pleaser.

This is due to the hybrid style of BBQ we've created to end up with the most mouthwatering, savory, smoked meats possible. First of all, we give our meats their irresistible flavor by slow-smoking them over hickory to bring out an intense, rich taste. After years of practice and perfection, our cooks know exactly how long to leave each meat in the smoker to ensure that it reaches its highest flavor potential.

The other thing that gives our hickory-smoked meats an extra edge over all the others is the special dry rubs that we use to prepare them and the house recipe BBQ sauce that we pair them with. Put it all together and you've got our hybrid style of BBQ which was inspired by the 4 BBQ meccas of the U.S.A.: Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, and Texas. We learned from the greats, but created a flavor that you will only find here at the Boot!

There Are So Many Choices
When some people hear BBQ, their idea of dishes may be limited to chicken, burgers, and steak like they might grill at home. On the contrary, our menu has a wide variety of different meats that we hickory-smoke, which include but are not limited to:
  • Hand-Pulled Pork
  • Beef Brisket
  • Turkey Breast
  • Pit Ham
  • Smoked Sausage
  • Burnt Ends
  • Baby Back Ribs
  • Spare Ribs
  • Smoked Chicken
  • Wobbly Wings
Those amazing meats can be ordered by the plateful or on a bun alongside one of our homestyle side dishes. You'll also find them used as ingredients in lots of creative dishes on our menu. It will take you a few trips back to the Boot to try them all!

All Ages Love the Boot
If it's the family that you're trying to convince rather than a group of friends, our family-friendly atmosphere and down-home hospitality will make everyone feel right at home. Young diners are excited about the choices on our kids' menu, which include favorites like Chicken Tenders, Mini Corn Dogs, Burgers, Grilled Cheese, Mac & Cheese, and even a Cheese Quesadilla. We've also got a kids' version of our Pork Sandwich in case they're ready to start moving toward becoming a smoked meat lover.

The kids get foods they are comfortable with and already love, and you get the chance to enjoy a grown-up dinner with your own favorites. Something that makes the experience even better is that since you're eating at our place, we'll take care of the cooking beforehand and the cleanup when you're done!

If They're Still Not Convinced...
There's always that one person in every group that won't agree with you no matter what. For that particular friend, you can let them know that the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks has more than just BBQ on our extensive menu.

For example, we've got Crab Stuffed Mushrooms and Cajun Dusted Shrimp for appetizers, incredible salads and savory soups, the best burgers in the Midwest, and even BLTs made with salmon or catfish. One glance through our menu and everyone in your group is sure to find something to make them very happy.

Now that we've coached you on how to convince everyone else why BBQ is the best choice for dinner (or lunch, or snack time...) you're probably licking your lips just from reading this blog. We're open 7 days a week so any time can be Wobbly Boots BBQ time!
