Why Kids LOVE Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

It's that time of year when kids begin trying to cram in as much end-of-summer fun as they can before school starts. You can help them out by bringing them to the best family friendly restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks for lunch or dinner. Not only do kids love the food at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach, but they can truly enjoy the experience too. Here are a few reasons why your kids will be excited about a trip to the Boot!

It's Messy!
Kids love getting messy, and eating BBQ is a great excuse to do just that! All of that savory, mouthwatering, hickory-smoked goodness we serve up with our very own house-made BBQ sauce is bound to end up on your hands and all around your mouth. This isn't the type of food you are careful with, but rather eat with reckless abandon and enjoyment! You can clean up when you're done. We've got plenty of wet wipes specifically for that.

Great Kids' Menu
Even if your children haven't developed a taste for full-on BBQ yet, our kids' menu offers lots of kid favorites, plus a few BBQ gateway foods to get those taste buds ready for the real thing.

  • Kids' Burger with fries
  • Kids' Chicken Tenders with fries
  • Grilled Cheese with fries
  • Mini Corn Dogs with fries
  • Cheese Quesadilla
  • Mac & Cheese Boat
  • Pork Sandwich with fries

Family Friendly Atmosphere
Once you set foot in our restaurant, you are welcomed as a part of our extended family. We've got plenty of seating to accommodate any size group, and even a cool "front porch" that kids really seem to love. The entire restaurant is non-smoking. (In respect to cigarettes, that is. There's a lot of hickory-smoking going on!)

We've also got 21 televisions, including our giant projection screen, conveniently placed all around the room. If you have a family full of sports fanatics, we've got the best place to watch sports at the Lake of the Ozarks. Cheering on your teams is encouraged!

There's Dessert!
If you aren't too stuffed after you eat, we've got some amazing dessert options to satisfy that sweet-tooth. You can even make plans to save room for dessert by taking part of your meal home in a doggy bag. (It makes great leftovers.)

  • Root Beer Float
  • Chocolate Cobbler
  • Rustic Apple Tart
  • Red Velvet Cheesecake
  • Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie
  • Islander Key Lime Pie
  • Premium Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Salted Vanilla Ice Cream

Mom & Dad Love It!
Best of all, our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant is one of the few places that grownups are thrilled to hear the kids suggest! We've got all the flavors you love, both out of the kitchen and behind the bar, and it's a place that everyone can agree on without a big debate.

So before school starts, get the family to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for a little end-of-summer fun. It's actually a great place to bring the family for a delicious and fun break any time because we're open all year long. No matter what the occasion, even if it's just because, our family is always thrilled to see your family.

7 Unbelievable Guinness World Records For BBQ

Our BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks has been piling up National Awards from prestigious barbecue contests around the country for over 20 years. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach may not have set any world records (yet!) but the following people did, and we thought our fellow BBQ fans would enjoy learning a bit more about them.

Largest Barbecue/Grilling Lesson
Just a few months ago, on April 27, 2017, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO, 336 participants took part in the largest grilling lesson ever given. Smithfield held this event to promote the launch of their new "Get Grilling America" campaign. Lessons were taught by 9-time world champion pitmaster Chris Lilly, Weber grillmaster Kevin Kolman, and special guest-chef Chris Jones, the Kansas City Chiefs' Defensive End and self-proclaimed BBQ fanatic.

Largest Barbecue (Dimensions)
Back in 2004 on June 20, the Discovery Channel's BIG! television show unveiled the world's largest barbecue. It measured 15 feet and 3.75 inches high, 20 feet and 2.25 inches wide, and 8 feet deep. The grill measured 96 square feet! They used this monster barbecue to cook a whole pig, a ten-foot hot dog, and four turkeys. We don't use equipment quite that large at the Boot, but the BIG flavor we produce might have you thinking that we do!

Longest Barbecue
At 20,246 feet in length, the people of Bayambang in the Philippines constructed the longest barbecue ever recorded. This took place during the Malangsi Fish-tival to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. 8,000 grills were connected, and they used 50,000 kg of fish, 2,000 kg of salt, 480 blocks of ice, and 6,000 bags of charcoal to create the meal served.

Largest Barbecue (Attendance)
When it comes to the size of the crowd rather than the size of the grill, the largest barbecue attendance recorded by Guinness World Records took place on August 18 2013. 45,252 people came to the event organized by Estado de Nuevo Leon at Parque Fundidora in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Largest Serving of BBQ'd Beef
General Pico, La Pampa, Argentina was the site of the largest serving of barbecued beef produced by Frigorifico General Pico and Municipalidad de General Pico for a 30th birthday celebration. This happened on March 20, 2011. Just over 30,231 pounds of raw beef were converted into a little more than 20,132 pounds of cooked meat to feed 20,000 people in attendance.

Categories for the largest servings of barbecued turkey and barbecued pork on Guinness World Records' website are still unclaimed, but there is an "Apply Now" button. I wonder how many people out there would like to see Wobbly Boots Roadhouse take on this world record?

Longest Barbecue Marathon (Team)
This world record happened recently too. On May 14, 2017, the team of Matteo Marras, Giovanni Meloni, and Pierfranco Ligios took place in a barbecue marathon that lasted 40 hours and 53 seconds! They did this in Sassari, Italy in honor of the opening of a new Mondo Covenienza store in that town.

Longest Barbecue Marathon (Solo)

Believe it or not, the barbecue marathon for this world record set by a single man went twice as long as the world record achieved by the team of three men above! After 80 hours of cooking, Jan Greeff, in association with Char-Broil, LLC, took the title in Columbus. Over the course of three days, Greeff produced 1,000 hot dogs, 200 pieces of corn, 104 pieces of chicken, 558 burgers, and 526 boereworse (a South African sausage.) All donations made by spectators during the setting of this record (over $10,000!) went to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Those are some pretty impressive feats, but when you're doing something you love, it's worth the extra effort. That's how we feel about the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks. Everyone involved with creating the mouthwatering meals we produce at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is extremely passionate about making it the best BBQ you've ever tasted. From timing the smoking process just right, adding the perfect amounts and kinds of spices and sauces, placing it on the plate, and even setting it down on your table, each step is completed with the utmost care. Until the rest of the world discovers how amazing we are, the Boot can be your very own little "Best in the Midwest" secret!

5 Reasons To Choose Wobbly Wings For National Chicken Wing Day

This Saturday, July 29, is your chance to celebrate one of our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant's most popular menu items - those incredible, mouthwatering, hickory-smoked Wobbly Wings! National Chicken Wing Day is this weekend, and Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has a few reasons why you should our chicken wings on this special day.

They're a great way to start a meal.
You'll find our juicy, jumbo chicken wings on the appetizer section of our menu because beginning lunch or dinner with a Wobbly Wings warm-up is so delicious, it gets your taste buds excited for the meal that is coming next. A small order of 5 is plenty to whet your appetite, but still leave room for another flavorful dish. Of course, if you prefer to order 10 or 20 chicken wings, you can make a meal out of them all by themselves!

They're perfect for sharing.
Our Wobbly Wings also come in orders of 30, which is an ideal amount to share with a few buddies along with a drink at the bar. (Just make sure you don't double-dip in the dressing!) As a matter of fact, ordering these amazing chicken wings in bulk also makes them an excellent party food. One great food among many when you have your event catered by Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

There are 6 kinds to try.
We start by coating jumbo chicken wings in our house dry rub, then they are slow-roasted in our hickory pit until they reach the perfect degree of fall-off-the-bone goodness. Each plate is served with your choice of ranch or bleu cheese dressing, coated in your choice of one of the following sauces:

  • PLAIN - Okay, not actually a sauce, but a choice you can make. This if for those people that don't want that hickory-smoked taste covered by any other flavors.
  • BBQ - Our house recipe sauce. A great addition to anything!
  • ORIGINAL - A mustard-based sauce like no other. Try it, you'll be hooked.
  • CHIPOTLE BUFFALO - Our version of traditional buffalo.
  • TERIYAKI - Sweet meets heat. Delicious!
  • TRASHED - Our smoked wings deep-fried before serving.

They pair well.
These irresistible chicken wings are more than enough on their own, but you can also find them in a couple of combination dishes.

Ribbies & Wings
You get 2 of our most popular items together on one plate! 4 individual Pork Spare Ribs and 6 Wobbly Wings.

The Wobbly Boots Sampler
Some of the best of what we have to offer! 4 Wobbly Wings, 4 Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, 4 Onion Rings, and 4 Spare Ribs. A mountain of food suitable for a big meal or sharing!

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Lake of the Ozarks, BBQ, ribs, wings, server, friendliest restaurant

Wobbly Wings are the best!
The number 1 reason why you should celebrate National Chicken Wing Day at the Boot is because we have the best chicken wings at the Lake of the Ozarks! You don't have to take our word for it though.

The public voted during this year's Lake Lifestyles magazine's "Best of the Lake" survey, and they picked Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for having the Best Chicken Wings, Best Ribs, the Friendliest Restaurant, and our very own Jessica Simpson as the Best Server! That just goes to show you, chicken wings aren't the only thing we excel at!

You don't have to wait until Saturday to order up a plate full of Wobbly Wings. Come on out to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach any day of the week, beginning at 11 am, and we'll gladly serve you as many chicken wings as you like.

Why Does Bacon Taste So Darn Good?

Who can resist the glorious smell of bacon wafting through the air? Even vegetarians' mouths start to water when they smell it! It's a natural, irresistible reaction that is pretty hard to control. We get to see this effect on a daily basis here at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant every time we pull that incredible meat out of our smoker, and each time it is served to one of our hungry customers.

Why does this meat in particular evoke such a euphoric feeling from nearly everyone on the planet? Well, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse did a little research on the subject, and we found out there are some scientific reasons why bacon is so appealing.

The Science of Bacon
Some foods contain a single molecule that is responsible for what you taste. For example, bananas and almonds are very distinctive flavors that mainly rely on a single molecule for flavor, but as yummy as they may be to you, those are foods that aren't too difficult to resist.

Bacon, on the other hand, has a phenomenal combination of factors that come together to create that crispy goodness. The best explanation that we found came from an online article from the BBC. It gets a bit scientific, but extremely interesting to us bacon-lovers.

" 'Some of the major flavour players are the result of the pork belly's fat breaking down,' says Guy Crosby, food scientist and science editor at America's Test Kitchen. 'It's not just the white marbling that's in play. The cell membranes of the muscle tissue contain fatty acids that disintegrate during cooking to yield a bouquet of flavourful compounds like aldehydes, furans, and ketones. By themselves, some of these molecules have distinct tastes or smells – furans have a sweet, nutty, caramel-like note, aldehydes a green, grassy note, and ketones tend to be buttery – but whatever they are doing together seems to be key. If any of these classes of molecules were missing from the overall bacon flavour, you would notice it.' "

So basically, the combination of sweet, nutty, caramel-like notes, + green, grassy notes, + a buttery flavor all come together in a magical way to create the magnificent bacon flavor we all know and love! The bacon that you get from our family-friendly restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks takes our bacon's flavor one step further when we put it in the smoker.

Hickory-Smoking Makes It Better
The rubs and spices that are added to bacon play a part in the final flavor too. The chemical reactions of everything combined create a variety of tastes, pointing the various molecules in different directions.

The act of smoking bacon causes the meat to take on yet another set of flavor compounds. Wobbly Boots BBQ's hickory-smoked meats go through a long, slow cooking process, giving all of our meats, including the bacon, a flavor that is the best in the Midwest. The smoke that comes from our hickory wood releases both acrid and sweet smelling compounds that combine to add that amazing extra flavor that puts our bacon on everyone's favorite foods list.

Bacon At The Boot
Wobbly Boots Roadhouse's menu features quite a few items containing our mouthwatering, hickory-smoked bacon. These menu items taste great on their own, but adding bacon makes them even better! (That's the true magic of bacon!) Some of the dishes that you will find our bacon on are:

  • Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
  • Brisket Quesadilla
  • Texas Fries
  • Cowboy Cobb Salad
  • Loaded Baker
  • Baked Potato Soup
  • Big Texas BLT
  • Catfish BLT
  • Salmon BLT
  • Grilled Turkey Wrap
  • Texas Style Club
  • Hickory Bacon BBQ Cheeseburger
  • El Diablo Burger

Wipe the drool off of your chin, hop in the car, and get yourself to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse! We're serving up our hickory-smoked goodness seven days a week, starting at 11 am. Whether you order the bacon or not, (come on, you know you're gonna!) you can rest assured that whatever dish you choose will taste great, and you'll leave with a very happy and satisfied stomach.

Go For The Greens! Wobbly Boots' Savory Salads

As tempting as it may be to enjoy the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks every day for every meal, in reality, you really should mix it up a bit. Getting a healthy dose of greens is very important for your body. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse helps you accomplish this with 4 of the most amazing salads you've ever tasted, and we've even masterfully combined a bit of our hickory-smoked goodness into the recipes.

Why Eat Your Greens?
Eating salad daily is said to be one of the healthiest habits you can pick up. As long as you don't load it with too much dressing or other less-health-conscious ingredients, it's a simple way to get your recommended daily serving of vegetables, along with a few other important health benefits.

Salads are a high-fiber food, and a diet high in fiber can help to lower your cholesterol levels. Fiber can also make a person feel full faster, which means eating less and aiding in weight loss. Depending on the ingredients used to make up your salad of choice, a great variety of antioxidants and vitamins are at your fingertips. The avocado featured in our Cowboy Cobb, for example, is full of "good fat" and helps a body to absorb more of the nutrients found in the other salad ingredients.

Wobbly Boots' Salads
Even though salads are generally thought of as a "light" food choice, don't let that idea steer you away from making one of our savory salads your meal. We load them up with all kinds of delicious ingredients, including our amazing, hickory-smoked meats, so that you not only get a healthy meal, but it will definitely fill you up! Don't worry if that sounds like too much, because a couple of our giant salads are available in half-portions.

Garden Salad
A crisp blend of greens topped with cheddar-jack and provolone cheese, tomatoes, and red onions. Great for a healthy side dish or appetizer.

The Big Salad
A large bowl of mixed greens topped with tomatoes, red onion, cheddar-jack and provolone cheese, and your choice of a delicious meat topping. Meat choices include: fried or grilled chicken, fried or grilled buffalo chicken, hand-pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey breast, pit ham, or burnt ends.

Smoked Salmon Salad
A bed of crisp greens topped with our house-smoked salmon, hard-boiled egg, tomatoes, and red onions.

Cowboy Cobb
Better known around these parts as "The King of Salads!" A platter of crisp greens, generously topped with smoked ham & turkey, crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, and cheddar-jack and provolone cheese.

Sandwich & Soup/Salad Combos
If you want salad but that's simply not enough, one of these combinations may be just what you're looking for. It includes your choice of 2:

  • Crisp Garden Salad
  • Bowl of Soup (Baked Potato Soup or Soup of the Day)
  • Sandwich (Turkey & Swiss Melt, Ham & Swiss Melt, or a 4-Cheese Grilled Cheese)
Salad orders come with your choice of dressing, including: Ranch, Fat-Free Ranch, Bleu Cheese, Honey Mustard, French, 1000 Island, Italian, Balsamic, or Chipotle Ranch.

When you eat at our family BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can have it all! Healthy ingredients, your daily dose of greens, a filling meal, and our mouthwatering, hickory-smoked meats, all in one dish! Our diverse menu is filled with all sorts of wonderful items, so no matter what you're in the mood for, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has something you're going to love.
