Labor Day Weekend 2018 & Beyond - September Fun at the Lake of the Ozarks

Labor Day Weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks is here once again, but don't think that means the end of summer fun around here. On the contrary, after this big holiday weekend, there are quite a few incredible annual events going on in the lake area, the weather is still wonderful, and the views slowly begin turning all sorts of gorgeous colors.

In today's blog, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has information on some things you can enjoy this Labor Day Weekend 2018 plus even more exciting events coming up after the holiday weekend.

You can catch all of the games right here with us at the Boot on our 21 TVs and the big projection screen. There are plenty of other sporting events going on over the weekend too, so when you're ready to cheer on your team, do it here with us!

On the Lake
For those of you spending most of your time on the water over the holiday, be sure to stop by our sister waterfront restaurants. Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina is famous for their amazing Cajun cuisine, legendary cocktails, and incredible live music. The marina, gas dock, and C-store have everything you need, both for your boat and your crew, for a great day on the lake.

Dog Days Bar & Grill not only offers amazing food and incredible drinks, but also a lakeside family-friendly pool plus a bigger pool complete with a swim-up bar. They've got amazing live music all weekend long and they are hosting another incredible Labor Day Log Jam with Logboat Brewing Co. and the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival team on Saturday from 1-5 pm. If you're traveling by boat, both of these waterfront restaurants are stops you need to make!

12th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest
Sept. 12-16
Our mid-Missouri town creates the ultimate Bikefest experience every year for motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the United States. Over 200 biker-friendly bars and restaurants get involved because this event is too large to be contained in just one spot! Throughout Bikefest you can experience great parties, rockin' concerts, a Passport Ride, motorcycle giveaways, scenic rides, and much more.

Lake of the Ozarks Air Show
Saturday, Sept. 22
The lake area features many events focused on boats in the water and motorcycles and classic cars on the land, so it's no surprise that we cover the skies too! The Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport hosts this annual day of celebration for our military, aviation, and more every year. You can witness daring acts in the air and on the land, vendor booths, a Ping-Pong Drop with prizes and other activities for the kids, plus a moving salute to our veterans. In case of inclement weather, the rain date for this event is Sunday, Sept. 23.

Pumkin Chunkin' Palooza
Saturday, Sept. 29
This family-friendly day of excitement is a great way to say goodbye to September and get ready for all of the fun October brings with it. The Ozarks Amphitheater in Camdenton is the site for this annual event. Pumpkins will be "chucked" from a meticulously crafted trebuchet hourly, and in between that you can experience lots of other activities. These include a Largest Pumpkin Contest, a Pumpkin Decorating Contest, face painting, petting zoo, climbing wall, carnival rides, kids' activities, craft beers, wine tastings, food vendors, and more.

Need a Place to Stay?
If you're traveling from out of town to enjoy all of the fun that the lake area has to offer throughout September (as well as into the fall and winter months) our sister waterfront restaurants also offer the best Lake of the Ozarks vacation house rentals. The Dog Days luxury vacation rental is located right next door to the restaurant & bar, has a fantastic lake view, 5 bedrooms, and can sleep up to 18 guests.

The Crusty Cuban - A Sandwich Worth Celebrating!

There are lots of different "food holidays" on the calendar every year, and if you're an avid foodie that does your best to observe as many of these as you can, we've got a good one for you. August 23 is Cuban Sandwich Day, and the Crusty Cuban at our Lake of the Ozarks restaurant & bar is just what you need to celebrate.

It turns out that this particular holiday started out as a hoax, but ended up finding a permanent place on the calendar. If you've tasted the Wobbly Boots Roadhouse version of this spectacular sandwich, then you know that place is well-deserved.

The Creation of a Holiday
In 2016, a writer for the Tampa Bay Times decided to perform an experiment to see if people would celebrate a holiday that he made up. Christopher Spata took it upon himself to send press releases out to many news organizations, as well as online holiday databases, stating that National Cuban Sandwich Day was a real thing taking place every August 23.

Many of those places went ahead and added the holiday to their calendars, no questions asked, and there were stories of it being celebrated in a few locations! Apparently, people are happy to have a reason to celebrate just about anything, they just need a little prompting!

Cuban Sandwich History
A Cuban Sandwich is a different take on a traditional ham and cheese sandwich. Ingredients originally included ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and salami on Cuban bread. The entire sandwich was toasted in a press, leaving the bread crispy and the cheese melted.

It originated in cafes that catered to Cuban workers in Key West and other communities in Florida where there were a lot of Cuban immigrants. It eventually made its way to Miami, where they took salami off of the sandwich, then slowly it was discovered by the rest of the United States. In 2011, organizers in Tampa held a Cuban Sandwich Festival, and in 2012, it was designated as the signature sandwich of Tampa Bay by the Tampa Bay Council.

The Boot's Crusty Cuban
Our version of this savory sandwich, the Crusty Cuban, is located on the "Down Home Sandwiches & Wraps" portion of our menu. It's not technically considered a BBQ item, but it does contain a couple of our amazing hickory-smoked meats.

The two main ingredients are Hand-Pulled Pork and Pit Ham. Next, we add pickles, house mustard, and Swiss cheese. After everything is in place, the entire sandwich is pressed to perfection! It is served alongside one of our delicious homestyle side dishes. We highly suggest the Creamy Cole Slaw or Seasoned Curly Fries, but our Crusty Cuban tastes great with all of our savory side dishes, so there's no wrong choice!

The next time that you take a trip to the best family restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, order yourself a Crusty Cuban sandwich. It's a unique dish that is sure to become one of your new Wobbly Boots BBQ favorites!

Treat the Entire Family to Dinner Out at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

School has started or will be starting very soon in most places. For families with kids in grades kindergarten-12th grade, that means getting back to a regular, and most likely extremely busy, day-to-day schedule. You deserve a break from cooking after a long day of running around, and those kids can probably use some fun in their life after a day full of learning. Make everyone happy and treat the entire family to dinner at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach!

Food for the Kids
Kids can be picky about what they're willing to eat, and many young children have not yet developed a love for BBQ like the grownups have. We completely understand that at our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant, so our kids' menu is filled with foods that children typically love.

Give them a dab of our house-recipe BBQ sauce for dipping and they may well be on their way to bridging over to the hickory-smoked side of our menu! Until they're ready for that, here are the tasty treats we have available for children ages 12 and younger.
  • Kids Burger with fries
  • Kids Chicken Tenders with fries
  • Grilled Cheese with fries
  • Mini Corn Dogs with fries
  • Pork Sandwich with fries (a great BBQ gateway sandwich!)
  • Mac & Cheese Boat
  • Cheese Quesadilla

Food for the Kids at Heart
For everyone over the age of 12 that has had the chance to fall in love with Wobbly Boots BBQ's heartier meals, we've got a diverse menu filled with all kinds of flavors to savor. First and foremost, our hickory-smoked meats tend to be the stars of the show. They can be served on a plate or on a bun, and you will find many of them used as ingredients in some of our other signature menu items. These meats include Pit Ham, Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket, Turkey Breast, Smoked Sausage, and Burnt Ends.

We also serve other BBQ favorites like our Baby Back Ribs and Classic Pork Ribs, Chicken, and those famous Wobbly Wings. You'll find plenty of non-BBQ items on the menu too, like Salads, Gourmet Sandwiches & Wraps, Black Angus Burgers, Steaks, Southern Comfort Food, and a LOT more! Whether you've got a table full of teenagers sitting with you or even the grandparents, there is something on our menu for everyone!

Family Friendly Atmosphere
You'll notice the down-home, family-friendly, welcoming feel of our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant the moment you walk through our front doors. A lot of effort is put into making sure that our customers feel like a part of our extended family while they're here.

There's plenty of seating for groups of every size in our smoke-free dining room. If you happen to be a family full of sports fans, then you'll appreciate the 21 TVs placed all around the restaurant, as well as our giant projection screen.

Happy Catfish Month! Celebrate Right Here at the Boot

August is National Catfish Month, as well as National Fishing Month. You can skip the work involved with fishing but still enjoy the delicious taste of fish by ordering one of the seafood dishes we have to offer on our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant menu. You will find salmon on our menu too, but since it's Catfish Month, that's the fish we'll be focusing on today.

The Benefits of Eating Catfish
It is recommended that you eat seafood 2-3 times a week for a healthy diet. Catfish, in particular, is low in calories and a great way to boost your intake of healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Catfish is a complete protein, providing you with all of the amino acids your body needs in a day. That helps your body to build lean muscle mass and also improves the effectiveness of your immune function. This tasty fish can provide you with nearly half of the recommended daily intake of vitamin B-12 too.

Fun Catfish Facts
Now that you know a little bit about how healthy eating catfish can be, here are a few intriguing facts that you might be interested to know.

  • Catfish are meat-eaters, dining on things like other fish, insects, worms, frogs, and newts.
  • Wild catfish are bottom feeders, but farm-raised catfish are taught to eat feed pellets that float on top of the water.
  • Catfish can have over 100,000 taste buds located not just in their mouth, but all over their body!
  • The greatest concentration of their sensory organs is located on the cat-like whiskers known as barbels, and catfish can develop up to 4 pairs of these.
  • Females lay eggs, but it's the male that takes care of the eggs and the young fish.
  • "Noodling" is the act of placing your arm inside a catfish hole and catching the fish when it puts its mouth around your bare hand. (Would you ever try this?)
  • Some say monster-sized catfish live below Bagnell Dam. What do you think?

Catfish at the Boot
You will find our first catfish dish on the Down Home Sandwich menu of our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant - the Catfish BLT. The catfish is prepared by coating it in our seasoned cornmeal before frying it to a golden brown perfection. It is served on a hoagie along with hickory-smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and savory chipotle mayo. It comes with your choice of one of our scrumptious homestyle side dishes.

We also have a fantastic Catfish Dinner. This plate consists of two amazing southern-fried catfish fillets served with tartar sauce for dipping. It is accompanied by a big slice of Texas toast and your choice of one of our homestyle side dishes.

Catfish is always a mouthwateringly good meal choice, especially the way we make it here at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant. Use National Catfish Month as the perfect excuse to head on into Wobbly Boots BBQ and order these incredible menu items. After August, simply come back because they taste so darn good!

10 of Our Most Popular Menu Items (How Many Have You Tried?)

Our extensive menu not only includes the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks but also many other delicious dishes to please any appetite. Today we've got a tasty look for you at 10 very popular dishes from the diverse menu at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach. Get ready for your mouth to start watering!

Wobbly Wings
Our JUMBO chicken wings have been bringing people to our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant since we originally opened the doors. The dry rub that we prepare them with is fantastic, and the slow-roasting process over hickory turns them into the most mouthwatering wings you've ever tasted. People love eating them plain, but we've also got some savory sauces to coat them in: BBQ, Original, Chipotle Buffalo, and Teriyaki, or you can order them Trashed (our smoked wings deep-fried before serving.)

Ribs
You can't run a successful BBQ restaurant without having some amazing ribs on the menu like these! Our dry-rubbed Baby Back Ribs and Classic Pork Spare Ribs spend the perfect amount of time in the smoker. Then they're lightly grilled and basted in our delicious house recipe BBQ sauce. We offer a half rack option, but if you get the full rack, that could mean you'll have tasty leftovers later! (Although it's tough to quit eating once you get started!)

Pulled Pork Nachos
You might not expect to see Nachos on a BBQ menu, but it all makes sense once take a look at the mouthwatering toppings we put on our version. Tri-color tortilla chips are covered with spicy queso sauce and then topped with our own hickory-smoked pulled pork, baked beans, cheddar-jack cheese, tomatoes, and onions. That's a lot of deliciousness for just one plate, but don't worry if it sounds like too much, because we offer it in a half-order too.

Burnt Ends
This delicacy starts out as Beef Brisket, but the small chunks from the ends of the beef are removed, double rubbed, double smoked, and coated in a delicious beer BBQ sauce. This extra special treatment turns them into the tender, flavorful pieces of beef that customers at the Boot can't seem to get enough of!

Turkey Avocado Wrap
The Turkey Avocado Wrap isn't the only wrap on our menu, but it's one that definitely gets ordered often around here. The main ingredient is our hickory-smoked 100% breast of turkey. We surround that with avocado, avocado mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar-jack cheese and wrap it all up inside a wheat tortilla. A flavor combination that is hard to resist!

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
This appetizer featuring a small sea creature offers BIG flavor! We take six large gulf shrimp and wrap each one individually in our hickory-smoked bacon. After that, the pairing is grilled to perfection before coming out of the kitchen for you to enjoy.

Smoked Prime Rib
The taste of our Prime Rib Dinner makes it special, but the fact that you can only get it on Fridays and Saturdays after 5 pm makes it an extra-special weekend treat. You can order either a 10-oz, 14-oz, or 18-oz savory cut of Smoked Prime Rib with Texas Toast and your choice of 1 of our home-style side dishes. Instead of TGIF, it's more like TGIPR!

Meatloaf
Our Smoked Meatloaf is not exactly like your mom used to make, but it's definitely every bit as good! Juicy ground beef is seasoned with veggies and spices, then we add our own Wobbly Boots BBQ twist by slow-roasting our handmade meatloaf instead of baking it. This mouthwatering dish is served open-faced with green beans, smashed potatoes, and beef gravy. Absolutely one of our best!

Reubens
Notice that this sandwich is listed as plural because we've got more than one way to cook up a Reuben at the Boot! In addition to the corned beef you're probably used to (although ours is, of course, house-smoked,) you can also choose to have it served with lean turkey breast or smoked sausage instead. The meat is joined by warm sauerkraut, 1,000 island dressing, and melted Swiss cheese, all grilled together on marbled rye bread.

Baked Potato Soup
We offer a Soup of the Day which changes daily, but our menu also offers Baked Potato Soup every single day of the week because it's just so darn popular! This incredibly rich and creamy soup is full of big chunks of potatoes. That would taste great alone, but we also garnish it with cheddar-jack cheese, green onions, and crumbled bits of our hickory-smoked bacon. Irresistible!

And that's just the beginning! You'll find a wide variety of delicious dishes on the menu at our family restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks that are every bit as good as these. There's an excellent chance that even the finickiest of diners will find something on the Wobbly Boots Roadhouse menu to love. Come on in soon and let us help you discover your own top 10 list!
