5 Fantastic "Treats" From the Menu at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

With Halloween coming this weekend, candy has most likely crossed your mind (and probably your lips) recently. As tasty as a sweet treat can be, we've got foods that are way more satisfying at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. Plus, if you need something to tame your sweet tooth after a plate of the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks, our dessert menu is sure to do the trick!

Here are just a few of the many delicious items we're happy to whip up and put on a plate or pop into a bag for you. (A to-go bag, that is, instead of a trick or treat bag!)

Famous Onion Rings

The great big, crispy, onion rings served at Wobbly Boots BBQ are so large, don't be surprised if you're able to slip one on your wrist! (We don't suggest it because that gets pretty messy, but it's totally possible!)

First off, we cut fresh yellow onions into big, thick slices. Those are hand-breaded to order and deep-fried to a perfect golden brown. We heap them in a stack on the plate in either a full or a half-order and serve them with our savory chipotle ranch. You can order this incredible appetizer as an upgraded side dish with your main meal too.

Baked Potato Soup

Fall weather calls for something hot and delicious to take off the chill. Our Baked Potato Soup is exactly what you need to do just that. Not your average "cup of soup," this popular Wobbly Boots dish is available year-round but tastes especially incredible as the weather gets colder.

This rich and creamy soup is full of big potato chunks that create a very hearty meal. It's garnished with cheddar jack cheese, crumbled bacon, and green onions and can be ordered by the bowl or by the cup. If you order this all the time and are in the mood for something different, we've always got another Soup of the Day on the menu too for a little variety.

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

These would be a great bite-size to wrap up like a big piece of candy and pass out as Halloween treats to the adults walking their little trick or treaters from door to door. It might be a bit messy but it sure would bring a big smile to their faces!

Probably best, though, to keep them in just the bacon wrapping on a plate, all for yourself. Each order is made up of 6 large Gulf shrimp individually wrapped in our hickory-smoked bacon and grilled to perfection. For an even tastier treat, try them tossed in our chipotle Buffalo sauce!

Wobbly Boots Sampler

This incredible appetizer plate is best shared with a friend or two, unless you're really, really hungry! It's a platter full of some of the best of what we have to offer, no silverware needed. (But quite a few napkins!)

The Wobbly Boots Sampler is a mountain of food suitable for either a big meal or sharing. It comes with 4 Wobbly Wings, 4 Famous Onion Rings, 4 Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, and 4 Spare Ribs slathered in BBQ sauce. (Like we said, WAY better than candy!)

Open Faced Smoked Turkey

If you're in the mood for a full meal, our Open Faced Smoked Turkey Dinner really hits the spot this time of year. You might want to think of it as practice for Thanksgiving. (And just think, right about now you've got 4 entire weeks to "practice" for that fantastic food holiday!)

Our mouthwatering smoked turkey is served open-faced on white bread with a side of smashed potatoes, turkey gravy, and green beans. We've also got an Open Faced Brisket Dinner that's equally as amazing if you happen to be in the mood for beef instead.

Get It To Go

The dining room at our family restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks opens daily at 11:00 am. We're thrilled to have you join us for a bite to eat in the dining room but if for some reason you need to be someplace else, we're also happy to pack it up and send it with you to go. The Wonderful Wraps of Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

A few weeks ago our blog featured "Down-Home Sandwiches So Delicious, You'll See Them Again in Your Dreams!" (That link will take you back to it, in case you missed it the first time around.) There were a few Wobbly Boots Roadhouse items from the sandwiches section of our menu that were left out but today, we're going to give you a closer look at those.

Our hearty wraps have everything you expect in a sandwich on the inside but on the outside, instead of bread, you'll find a tasty tortilla. This allows us to bundle up all of that tastiness into one easy-to-hold meal.

Wrap Origins

People around the world have been eating wraps in some form or another for a very long time. The wrap as we know it today began gaining popularity in the 1990s and most likely originated in California as a unique version of a Tex-Mex-style burrito.

Stories vary about who actually deserves the credit for beginning the wrap "trend." One tale says it was first served in the early 80s in southern California, while another says this food originated in New York City, and still another version gives credit to a cafe in Connecticut.

One of those stories states that the first wrap served in their particular restaurant wasn't because they'd added it as a new menu item but rather it happened because they ran out of bread! (Quite a few of the best foods were created by accident!)

Wobbly Boots Wraps

Here at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant, we've got 5 amazing wraps on the menu for you to choose from. Each one also comes with your choice of one of our homestyle side dishes as well.

Grilled Turkey Wrap
The original Wobbly Boots' wrap! Lightly grilled turkey breast served in a warm wheat tortilla stuffed full of bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar jack cheese, and ranch dressing.

Turkey Avocado Wrap
Hickory-smoked 100% turkey breast served in a wheat tortilla with avocado, roasted pepper & tomato aioli, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar jack cheese.

Wrangler Wrap
A wheat tortilla stuffed with three of our signature items - pulled pork, baked beans, and creamy coleslaw.

Smoked Salmon Wrap
Delicate house-smoked salmon paired with a lemon-caper cream cheese and served in a wheat tortilla with lettuce, tomato, and red onion.

Buffalo Chicken Wrap
Breaded chicken tenders tossed in our hot chipotle sauce served in a wheat tortilla with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar jack cheese.

The next time your stomach starts rumbling, head on over to Wobbly Boots BBQ in Osage Beach for one of these "sandwiches" all wrapped up, nice and neat, in a delicious bundle. Each of the five different wraps is equally delicious and chock-full of so many mouthwatering ingredients, you'll have a meal that is both tasty and satisfying!

Meatloaf Gets a Delicious Upgrade at the Boot!

We love our food "holidays" here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach. If you bother to look for these special days on a calendar, there is something being celebrated every day of the year and most days, it involves food. YUM!

Last week's blog covered National Pulled Pork Day (did you celebrate?) and this week, we've got National Meatloaf Appreciation Day coming up on Sunday, October 18. Sure, meatloaf sometimes gets a bad rap but anyone that thinks they don't like it has obviously never tasted the amazing smoked meatloaf served at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant

Today, we've got a quick look for you at the ancient origins of meatloaf followed by an irresistible look at our very own special homestyle version from the kitchen at the Boot.

Meatloaf's Ancient Origins

The origin of this delicious loaf of meat dates back as early as 5th century Rome. The recipe found in one of their ancient cookbooks was made by mixing chopped meat, bread, and wine. Meatloaf is also a traditional dish of Germany, Scandinavia, and Belgium, and it has been linked as a "cousin" of the Dutch meatball.

The origin of modern-day American meatloaf comes from a dish called "scrapple." German-Americans in Pennsylvania made this by combining leftover pork scraps and trimmings with cornmeal and other seasonings. This particular recipe was pan-fried before being served.

The meatloaf of today didn't begin showing up in cookbooks until the late 19th century. It was a very popular dish during the Great Depression because it gave families the ability to stretch inexpensive meats into a large meal. Lots of filler ingredients could be added to make it serve more people, and many housewives went so far as to create "meatless" meatloaves.

Meatloaf Gets an Upgrade

You'll find a marvelous version of meatloaf in the Southern Comfort Foods section of the menu at our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant. Comfort food is a term that is used to describe dishes that are fairly simple to prepare and often have some type of nostalgia associated with them for the diner. You know, something like Mom or Grandma used to make.

Well, the incredible type of meatloaf that we serve is NOT your grandma's meatloaf! Also, while the ingredients for meatloaf are fairly easy to mix together, the special touches we add to ours is anything but simple.

The biggest difference that makes the most mouthwatering impact is the fact that our meatloaf is slow-smoked over hickory. Hickory-smoked ground chuck is seasoned with fresh veggies and savory spices. Once it has reached the perfect degree of doneness, we serve it up open-faced with brown gravy, smashed potatoes, and green beans. The perfect meal for a fall day!

More Homestyle Comfort

This amazing smoked meatloaf is in good company in the Southern Comfort Foods section of the menu at Wobbly Boots BBQ. You may also want to give these hot and delicious dishes a try this fall too.

Of course, if you're not up for that challenge, we've got plenty of other amazing menu items to satisfy all of your cravings.

The Tastiest Way to Celebrate National Pulled Pork Day is at The Boot!

National Pulled Pork Day lands on Monday, October 12 this year. The crew here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is pretty excited about that because, when you spend as much time as we do around the best smoked meats at the Lake of the Ozarks, you truly start to appreciate them! (Our regular diners totally get that!)

Our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant offers an excellent variety of savory smoked meats, including beef brisket, turkey breast, pit ham, smoked sausage, wings, ribs, chicken, and more. The mouthwatering pulled pork is quite popular among these and, as you will see from today's blog, a very versatile meat. Here are some of the many delicious ways that pulled pork is used at the Boot.

Pulled Pork - On a Plate or On a Bun?

The irresistible pulled pork at Wobbly Boots BBQ is used as an ingredient on many dishes throughout our menu but it's every bit as enjoyable on its own! We make it so incredibly tasty by slow-smoking it over hickory for 16 hours. After that, it is hand-pulled and trimmed.

This pulled pork can be ordered as a sandwich on a locally-baked Kaiser roll in either a 5-oz. or 8-oz. serving. You can also enjoy it as a BBQ dinner plate by itself or joined by some of our other amazing smoked meat choices.

More Pulled Pork Menu Items

As we mentioned earlier, pulled pork at the Boot is also used as an ingredient in lots of different menu items. For example:

BBQ Pork Nachos
Corn tortilla chips covered with spicy queso cheese sauce, pulled pork, baked beans, cheddar jack cheese, tomatoes, and onions all served with a side of jalapenos.

This popular dish is available as a full order or half-order and if you come in during Happy Hour each Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm or all day on Sunday, you can enjoy these at a discounted price!

The Big Salad
This gigantic salad (which also comes in a smaller size) gives you a choice of a delicious meat topping (and pulled pork is one of those) and adds that to a bowl of mixed greens topped with tomatoes, red onion, cheddar jack cheese, and Provel cheese with your choice of dressing.

Loaded Baker
A huge potato stuffed with your choice of pulled pork, beef, ham, or turkey that is topped with cheddar jack cheese, crumbled bacon, and green onions.

Wrangler Wrap
A wheat tortilla stuffed with 3 of our signature items - pulled pork, baked beans, and creamy coleslaw.

Crusty Cuban
House-pulled pork, pit ham, house mustard, and Swiss cheese pressed to crispy perfection.

Southern Style Pork
A pulled pork sandwich with a Carolina twist! We top this one with our creamy coleslaw.

Beal Street Burger
Here we have a delicious tribute to the South! Our incredible Farm Boy Black Angus Burger is topped with both creamy coleslaw and our savory pulled pork.

While National Pulled Pork Day is a perfect day to celebrate this mouthwatering smoked meat, you don't have to wait until then! We serve these delicious dishes 7 days a week at the Boot along with a lot more of the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks. Come on in whenever you're feeling hungry. The crew at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach will make sure you are well-fed in the most delicious ways possible!
