A Must-See Christmas Movie List

The best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks will be closed on Christmas Day so that we can spend it with our loved ones.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse will be open Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day, then back open for the weekend. Since we won't be there (for one day only) to entertain you, we decided to list a few of our favorite holiday movies to keep you busy.  If there are any on this list that you haven't seen yet, we highly recommend that you check them out.

Rudolph & Hermey the Elf (photo from Wikipedia)

FOR OLD-TIME'S SAKE

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, The Year Without a Santa Clause... or any other of these stop-action and animated Christmas classics.  You seriously never get too old to enjoy watching one of these old favorites again.

A Christmas Carol
There have been many versions of the Charles Dickens classic novel brought to the big screen.  While the story itself is a classic, you should be able to find a perfect version of this one for any age and everyone's taste in movies

Miracle on 34th Street
A very nice old gentleman claiming to be Santa Claus is institutionalized.  A litle girl convinces a young lawyer to prove to the court that this is actually the real Santa.

It's a Wonderful Life
A frustrated businessman is convinced that the world would be a better place without him in it, and an angel shows him how very wrong he is.

A Christmas Story
A 1940's family goes about a regular Christmas holiday for most people of the time while young Ralphie comes up with ways to talk his parents, his teacher, and Santa himself into believing that he is old enough for a Red Ryder BB gun.  You'll probably see your own family members in these characters, and you'll definitely have a good laugh.

FOR SOME SILLY FUN

Elf
An adopted elf, who turns out to be much larger than all of the other elves at the North Pole, is sent to the U.S to find his real father and his own true identity.  The best way to describe how silly this adventure gets is to mention the star, Will Ferrell.  Now you have some idea of how much you will be rolling on the floor laughing!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
This time around the Griswold family tries to have a happy holiday vacation at home, but their odd relatives plus their own crazy antics turn everything into a big, hilarious disaster.  Chevy Chase once again leads this family through a funny and thoroughly entertaining movie.

Scrooged
Yet another twist on Dicken's "A Christmas Carol," this time around a selfish t.v. executive played by Bill Murray learns some valuable lessons on Christmas Eve from the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.

Just Friends
You can't go home for Christmas as an adult without feeling like a kid again. When Ryan Reynolds' character comes face-to-face with his childhood crush, he really resorts back into his old high school self and straight back into the "friend zone."

FOR THE KIDS

Home Alone
Kids never seem to get tired of watching 8-year-old Kevin defend his home against sneaky burglars when his family accidentally leaves him home alone while they go on vacation.

The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Muppets put their famous, entertaining spin on a holiday classic tale.  It's a fun way to introduce children to the story of Ebenezer Scrooge.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
It doesn't matter if it's the classic cartoon or the live-action version, Dr. Seuss's Christmas story about how a cranky Grinch learns the meaning of holiday is always a favorite.

The Polar Express
Beautifully animated and masterfully told, this children's book turned movie tells the tale of a young boy's magical adventure by train to the North Pole.

Jingle All the Way
Parents will empathize with the familiar gift-buying panic while kids will get a good laugh.  Two dads race across town to find the hottest toy of the season for their sons after finding out they are sold out everywhere.

NO KIDS ALLOWED

These are now Christmas classics in their own way, but make sure any kids around are sound asleep in another room before pushing play.  These are geared toward a much more (im)mature audience.

Bad Santa
A conman and his partner decide to pose as Santa and his little helper so that they have access to stores to rob on Christmas Eve.  After accidentally befriending a young troubled boy, attitudes begin to change.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3-D Christmas
These two buddies with perpetual "munchies" accidentally burn down Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree, and it seems to keep getting worse for them after that.

Die Hard
You might think of this as more of an action movie than a Chrismtas one, but it was on every single top Christmas movie list we looked at, plus it's simply awesome!  John McClane saves several hostages during a Christmas party in a skyscraper.  Yippee-Ki-Yay...

We bet even the big man himself sits down to enjoy a few of these holiday favorites after a long night of delivering gifts.  Sit back, rest up on Christmas Day, and enjoy a movie marathon of some of the movies listed above.  You'll be refreshed and ready to get out and visit the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday.  Then you can have a seat and relax for a bit with us right here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.  It will be the weekend, after all.  Have a very merry Christmas, and we'll be seeing you real soon.

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse's New Year's Eve Celebration

The best New Year's Eve celebration at the Lake of the Ozarks is going on at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach this year.  We're saying goodbye to 2015 with an awesome party,   Thursday, December 31, you don't want to miss out on the delicious food, incredible drinks, and fantastic live music on our stage from Funhouse!

You will still be able to order everything off of our mouth-watering, everyday menu, but we are also working on an extra-special, select menu to go along with it.  It will include some great dishes, one of which will definitely be Filet Mignon.  At midnight, everyone will join together for a champagne toast

Before the clock strikes twelve, we will be rocking the night away with Funhouse.  You may recognize these guys from their multiple appearances at Dog Days Bar & Grill over the 2015 season, including this past year's Annual White Party.  Here is an interview with the band that will help you get to know them a little better before we all ring in the new year together.

The Band

  • Jimi James  -  guitar, vocals
  • Eddie Hines  -  bass guitar, vocals
  • Tommy Dwyer - drums, vocals
  • Micah Collins  -  production coordinator (audio/ lighting)

How did you guys come together?

The band formed almost two years ago, with the idea of focusing on current songs & artists, as there are already a ton of 80's, 90'. classic rock, country, and blues bands in the area.  We wanted to play something different that could get dancers excited.

What are some favorite or unique gigs you have played?

ALL of them, with summer shows at Dog Days at the top of the list of course! We love the lake and lake people.

What does a typical set list look like?

Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson / Bruno Mars
Happy - Pharrell Williams
Love Runs Out - One Republic
Treasure - Bruno Mars
Counting Stars - one Republic
Safe and Sound - Capital Cities
the Real Slim Shady - Eminem
Feels So Close / Summer - Calvin Harris
Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5
Don’t - Ed Sheeran
Geek in the Pink - Jason Mraz
Good Feeling - Flo Rida
Maps - Maroon 5
Lessons in Love - Neon Trees
Get Lucky - Daft Punk
Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
Forget You - Cee Lo Green

Who are some of your greatest musical influences?

All of it…….except polkas.  A lot of punk and new wave influences....but still love the classic cats like Sir Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, etc. etc......but we've come to appreciate a lot of current guys.

Those are the type of people that we can't wait to party with all night long, and so are you!  Join your favorite BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks to ring in 2016 in style.  The Wobbly Boots Roadhouse crew will make sure that fun is happening all night long, along with the best food and most delicious drinks in town.

Southern Comfort Food for the Cold Days

It doesn't have to be cold outside to enjoy our delicious Southern Comfort Food menu items, but that warm, full feeling in your stomach on a cold, wintry day really is something special.  The best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is the perfect winter place to go when you want something hot and tasty to knock off the chill.

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has a special section of our amazing BBQ menu that includes some classic, favorite comfort foods.  We are actually experts at a lot more than BBQ.  Many of our comfort foods are still slow-smoked in our hickory smoker like our BBQ offerings, giving them a special rich and savory flavor.  Here is what you have to look forward to the next time you are craving a delicious, hot meal.

Smoked Meatloaf

Juicy ground beef seasoned with veggies and spices, slow-roasted on our hickory smoker, served open-faced with smashed potatoes & beef gravy and green beans.

Prime Rib Hot Beef

Slow-smoked sliced prime rib served with smashed potatoes & gravy and green beans.

Chicken Fried Steak

Hand-breaded, crisp fried chicken served with mashed potatoes & country style cream gravy with green beans.

Open Faced Smoked Turkey

The way Mom used to make it!  Delicious smoked turkey served open-faced on white bread with smashed potatoes & turkey gravy and green beans.

Country Fried Pork

Our famous hand-breaded pork tenderloin served open-faced with smashed potatoes & country style cream gravy and green beans.

Loaded Baker

A HUGE baked potato stuffed with your choice of our smoked pork, beef, ham, or turkey, then topped with crumbled bacon, green onions, cheddar-jack cheese, and our house recipe BBQ sauce.

We have a long list of incredible home style side dishes available, but there's just something extra yummy and comforting about good ol' mashed potatoes and green beans, and of course, everything's better with a little gravy poured over it!

Not only do these dishes provide physical comfort, but they also make you feel warm and fuzzy inside by making you think back to when you were young and these foods were served around your own dinner table.  The next time you are craving a bit of comfort, head on over to your favorite BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks.  You'll always feel right at home at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, and you'll always leave full and satisfied.

5 Barbecue World Records

Our kitchen doles out the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks seven days a week. We offer up incredible, satisfying flavor with every order placed at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. That's quite a feat in intself, but here are a few record-breaking barbecue facts from the Guinness Book of World Records that we know our BBQ fans will find pretty cool.

LARGEST SERVING OF BARBECUED BEEF

30,231.99 pounds of raw beef were cooked up to make up 20,132.61 pounds of cooked beef on March 20, 2011 to celebrate the Frigorifico Pico's 30th birthday.  This incredibly delicious feat was mastered in General Pico, La Pampa, Argentina.  20,000 guests at the celebration anxiously ate it up!

LARGEST BARBECUE GRILL

The Discovery Channel's BIG! television show built the world's largest barbecue and presented it on June 20, 2004.  The incredible size of this barbecue allowed them to cook an entire pig, a 10-foot hot dog, and four turkeys!
The measurements equaled:  15 ft. 3.75 in. tall, 20 ft. 2.25 in. wide, and 8 ft. deep.  The grill itself is 96 square ft. wide and 8 ft. deep.

LARGEST BARBECUE ATTENDANCE

To earn this title, 45,252 people gathered at this event in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on August 18, 2013.  We bet they wish they had one of the two grills above to cook for all of those people on!

LONGEST BARBECUE

At a whopping 20,246 feet long, the longest barbecue was made in the Philippines on April 4, 2014.  8,000 people took part in making this record happen.  It was achieved in order to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city of Bayambang.  8,000 grills were connected to each other to form the longest barbecue, and over 6,000 bags of coal were used to heat it up.

LONGEST BARBECUE MARATHON

On April 27, 2014, Jan Greeff, in association with Car-Broil LLC, grilled for 80 hours!  It was for an event benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Columbus, Georgia.  During this 80 hours, Jan cooked 1,000 hot dogs, 200 pieces of corn, 104 pieces of chicken, 558 burgers, and 526 boereworse.  Over $10,000 was raised for the foundation.

A lot of work went into breaking those records, and we bet the participants had a lot of fun doing it.  If these world records have made you hungry for a bit of BBQ, come on over to the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks and order some up.  We may not be in the Guinness Book of World Records (yet!) but Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has earned quite a few national awards for our amazing food.  Come on in and try it for yourself.

4 Great Ways To Give Thanks

Thanksgiving is the time of year that we reflect on all of the wonderful things in our life.  Quite often, it happens to be your family and friends.  Family and friends play an important role in our day to day life.  In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, Wobbly Boots BBQ has a few great ways for you to show your gratitude to these amazing people.

Pay It Forward

A great thing that you can do when a person does something nice for you is to pay it forward.  Use the act of kindness that you are thankful for to inspire kindness, and put it out there in the world.  If everyone, everywhere, did this just once a day, there would be a lot more happy, thankful people in the world.

Pay It Back

On the other hand, it's also nice to show appreciation to the person that inspired you.  It doesn't have to be their birthday or Christmas to pick up a small token of your appreciation for them.  If it's something that you can do together, even better.  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse gift certificates are perfect for this!  (We're just saying....)  It doesn't have to be a gift though.  Instead of buying a gift, do something special for them to say thank you.  Wash their car or shovel the snow from their driveway.

Write a Thank You Card

This may seem old school, but it will never go out of style.  Taking pen to paper and jotting down a hand-written note thanking someone will definitely touch their hearts.  The fact that you took the time to do that instead of shooting them an email or a quick text will mean a lot to them.

Acknowledge Them Publicly

Social media is a wonderful thing when you use it for good.  Take to Facebook or Twitter and brag about how awesome your buddy is.  Let everyone know how much you are thankful for knowing that particular person at the same time that you are letting them know it.  Everyone deserves a little public pat on the back every now and then.

The more gratitude you show people, the more they want to keep doing wonderful things. Thanksgiving is a magnificent holiday because it makes us realize all the reasons we have to be thankful.  Once you begin thinking about it, you may be surprised at just how many there are.

Your favorite BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is very thankful for the awesome customers that we get to meet, visit with, and serve on a daily basis.  You make working here a wonderful experience.  Thank you for making Wobbly Boots Roadhouse your choice for a night or afternoon out. Have an incredible Thanksgiving holiday!
