5 New Year's Resolutions To Attempt In 2017

When a new year rolls around, a lot of people decide to make a fresh start by making a few resolutions. Usually it's some type of self-improvement, and often it's a promise to do more nice things for others. Just in case you need a little bit of inspiration, Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has come up with a list of 5 resolutions for you to give a try.

Meet New People
A great way to expand your horizons is to get to know new people. Everyone has their own story, and you can learn a thing or two just by striking up a conversation with someone new. You can always find a friendly face behind the Wobbly Boots BBQ bar to strike up a conversation with, or swing by during your favorite team's game and get to know a few fellow sports fans. Between our 21 televisions, there's bound to be a great game on.

Pay It Forward
Imagine what would put a smile on your face, then do that thing for someone else hoping for the same result. It can be an act of kindness that doesn't cost you any more than time, like opening a door for someone. If you have a little extra cash to spend, anonymously send a round of drinks or an appetizer to the table across the room from you. If you strive to do one nice thing a day, or even once a week, before you know it, it will become second nature to you.

Try Something New
Start small, like trying a brand new food that you've never had before. Our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant can probably help you out with that one. (Unless you've braved the entire menu already!) More than likely you've fallen in love with our mouth-watering, hickory smoked BBQ, but there are a lot of other flavors on our menu that may be new to you.

For example, our fried Catfish BLT is a flavor combo that will tickle your taste buds, or you can try our grilled Salmon BLT if you prefer that fish. We also serve an amazing Crusty Cuban filled with house pulled pork, pit ham, pickles, house mustard, and Swiss cheese. If you simply can't give up ordering your "regular" when you come in, maybe just order a different side dish than you normally choose. Once you get the small task of trying a new food out of the way, you'll have the confidence to tackle something even bigger and newer to you!

Quit Smoking
This can be a tough one if you've been a smoker for a long time, but New Year's Day seems to be a popular time to resolve to quit. It's a lot healthier for you, and it's also good for the people around you. (Like those new friends you'll be making this year!)

Our family friendly restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks can help out with this while you're here. Our place is a non-smoking establishment, so no one else will be lighting up and tempting you. It's a perfect spot to try to quit.

Take A Trip
The United States is a great big place, and there are many exciting areas to explore. If you already live in the lake area, you don't have to go too far from home at first. Plan a day trip just a few hours away. We hear Clive, Iowa near Des Moines is an interesting town, and the best part is that they have a Wobbly Boots Roadhouse of their own, so you'll feel right at home!

If instead you live outside of the Lake of the Ozarks, then taking a trip here to us is a must! The summer is the busiest time of year, but you will find fun things to fill your time no matter what season you make the trip. The Boot can entertain you year-round, and our sister restaurants - Dog Days Bar & Grill and Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina - not only feed you spring through fall, but also offer some of the best live entertainment and events at the Lake of the Ozarks. An amazing vacation destination!

Start Your New Year At The Boot!

We've tried to give you a few ideas to get your new year started out on a positive note, and we've also got an incredible idea for the best way to end the current year - with a great big, out-of-this-world, exciting New Year's Eve party at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

Our Incredibly Immense Whiskey Menu At Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

One thing that we absolutely love to pair with the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks, as well as everything else on our extensive menu, is a good whiskey. The bar at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is stocked with plenty of delicious varieties to choose from - more than 45 varieties, as a matter of fact!

If you are already a whiskey drinker, then you most likely have a favorite. Anyone that is new to the drink may be a little overwhelmed at all of the choices. It's tough to know where to begin when there are so many to pick from. Here's a little background information on this delicious spirit to help you make that decision.

Whiskeys differ in the main ingredient, alcoholic content, and quality. Malt whiskeys are made up mainly of malted barley, and grain whiskeys can be made from any type of grains, such as corn, rye, or wheat. Depending on the way a distiller combines the ingredients, the following types can be produced:

Blended - different types of whiskey are blended together, sometimes from different distilleries

Single Malt - made from only one type of malted grain and from only one distillery; unless it is labeled as "single cask," it may be a blend of more than one year from more than one cask

Nearly every country makes its own version, but the four featured below are the most popular, and Wobbly Boots BBQ happens to have them all behind our bar.

American Whiskey
We currently have 39 American whiskeys on our menu, 27 from Kentucky and 4 from Tennessee.
  • Bourbon - This is made from a mash of at least 51% corn. The majority of American bourbon comes from Kentucky.
  • Rye - This is distilled from a mash of at least 51% rye.
  • Tennessee - What makes whiskey from this state special is that it must be filtered through charcoal. Otherwise, the distillation process is similar to that of a bourbon.
  • Examples from our bar
    • Blanton's (Frankfort, KY)
    • Angels' Envy Port Cask (Louisville, KY)
    • Jim Beam Black (Clermont, KY)
    • Gentleman Jack (Lynchburg, TN)
    • Hudson Baby Bourbon Rye (Gardiner, NY)
    • Ozark Distillery Whiskey (Osage Beach, MO)

Canadian Whiskey
Whiskey from our neighbors to the north tends to be light-bodied and fruity, and they are most often blends. It must be made in Canada and aged at least 3 years.
  • Examples from our bar:
    • Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye (Toronto, Ontario)
    • Black Velvet (Valleyfield, Quebec)

Irish Whiskey
Similar to Canadian whiskey, yet with a more robust flavor. It must be made in Ireland and aged at least 3 years.
  • Examples from our bar:
    • Jameson Irish Whiskey (Cork, Ireland)
    • Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates (Cork, Ireland)

Scotch Whisky
Once again, this must be distilled in the country it is named for - Scotland. It must mature in an oak cask at least 3 years. Most are distilled two times, but some go through the process more, as many as twenty times. You might also notice that any whisky from Scotland does not contain the "e" in the name.
  • Examples from our bar:
    • Glennfiddich 14 Year (Dufftown, Scotland)
    • The Glenlivet 12 Year (Banffshire, Scotland)
    • Chivas Regal (Keith, Scotland)
    • Monkey Shoulder (Dufftown, Scotland)

If you want to become an aficionado, there is a lot more to learn, but that basic information should get you started. Once you decide which whiskey to try first, one of our talented bartenders should be able to help you pick out a few delicious menu items that will go well with it. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is not only a great place to hone your whiskey skills, it's a tasty place to do it too!

Some people look forward to Christmas, New Year's Eve, and every holiday celebration packed in between those all year long. Others find it a stressful time full of anxiety. Well, your favorite BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks has some advice that both kinds of people will find very helpful this holiday season. Read on for the answers to all of your holiday questions. (Well, a lot of them, at least!)

What should I serve for the party?
Give us a call and we'll help you decide on the best tasting, customized menu to serve all of your guests, and then we'll cook it up and deliver it to your event in our Wobbly Boots Roadhouse catering van. That's not limited to lunch and dinner, because we can even cater breakfast, breaks, office parties, seminars, and more.

If you don't want to bother with cleaning up before everyone gets there and after they leave, reserve our private party room and host your event at the Boot. In that case, all you have to do is show up, enjoy the celebration, and get all of the well deserved credit for planning the best party ever.

How do I get these guests out of the house?
Bring them to us! If you are hosting a house full of people this holiday season, everyone is bound to get a little stir crazy after a while. Give everyone a much needed break and head on over to the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks

We've got plenty of room for groups of every size, 21 televisions playing all of your favorite sports, a fully stocked bar, and food that you don't have to cook for everyone. After a few hours of fun at the Boot, you'll all be ready to head back to the house and enjoy the rest of your holidays together.

What do I give the person that has everything?
How about a Wobbly Boots Roadhouse gift card? Not only does it allow them an incredible afternoon or evening on you, all of our gift cards can be used at both of our sister restaurants too. If they can hold on to those gifts until next spring, they can be used to make purchases at Dog Days Bar & Grill and Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina. Everyone will love that!

Where should we go for New Year's Eve?
Once again, the best answer is Wobbly Boots Roadhouse! We'll be partying in style on New Year's Eve. There will be a special menu for the evening, amazing drinks flowing from our talented bartenders, and the best live entertainment at the Lake of the Ozarks. Locally Made Moonshine Cocktails from Ozark Distillery at the Boot

Apparently, the day before Thanksgiving is National Tie One On Day. While we don't encourage over-indulgence, you will find a large selection of delicious cocktails to enjoy from the bar at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant. Among these are a few incredible specialty drinks made from the product of a local, family-owned business - Ozark Distillery. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is the perfect place to give their amazing moonshine a try.

(photo from OzarkDistillery.com)
Ozark Distillery Moonshine
Camden County's only legal distillery ever happens to be located right here in Osage Beach. They produce authentic Ozark moonshine made with Missouri-grown corn. Traditional methods are used to hand grind the grain and mash using a 4 hour process, and each batch is hand-crafted without adding sugar to the all grain mash. It then ferments for 5-7 days, and that's when the magic happens. Their efforts recently earned Ozark Distillery's Corn Whiskey Moonshine a silver medal at the American Distilling Institute Competition.

They've gotten creative and added some pretty tasty flavors to their line of products. Real fruit is used to infuse many of them, as well as other natural ingredients like real vanilla beans. Some of your taste choices are: Apple Pie, Vanilla Bean, Blackberry, and Sweet Tea.

(photo from OzarkDistillery.com)
More Than Moonshine
They have created several flavored moonshines, but if that isn't your drink of choice, they also make vodka and bourbon whiskey at their Lake of the Ozarks distillery. Both are made with Missouri corn. The bourbon uses more Missouri items to get its flavor, including limestone-rich Missouri water and barrels made from Missouri white oak. Those barrels just happen to come from another small, family-owned business located right here in this great state too.

Moonshine Cocktails
The "Wobbly Boot" (photo from OzarkDistillery.com)
Ozark Distillery has come up with a few tasty mixed drinks containing their various moonshines, and Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is proud to serve them. Swing by the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks and order up "The Wobbly Boot" which is their awesome Blackberry Moonshine mixed with lemonade.

The Vanilla Bean Moonshine makes an amazing vanilla Coke, and if you mix it with root beer you've got all the yummy flavor of a root beer float, but with an added kick! Of course, they are all great simply poured over ice too!

Join us for a drink!
Wobbly Boots Roadhouse will be closed on Thanksgiving day, but we're opening the bar up at 7:00 pm. Come on by, catch some football with us, and enjoy one of the delicious drinks we've mentioned in today's blog. We'll be serving them up all weekend long too, along with all of your menu favorites. You may be able to get Ozark Distillery Moonshine at other spots in the lake area, but you can only enjoy it alongside the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks when you have it right here with us. See you soon!

Local Kids Benefit From the Gala of Trees Holiday Event

The Annual Gala of Trees, which is making it's move to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse this year, is not only a fun way to pick up some incredibly unique holiday decor for your home, but it's also a wonderful way to lend a hand to some children that might not otherwise get to enjoy Christmas this year. Your favorite Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant is teaming up with other local people to help out the Lake of the Ozarks Idiots Club and the Lake Ozark Rotary's Candyland program to make this season bright for many local kids.

The Gala of Trees

This fun Lake of the Ozarks annual event was formerly hosted at Bootleggers Sports Book & Grill, but this year Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is extremely proud to have inherited such a marvelous event. It all starts with a kickoff party on Thursday, November 17 to unveil the decorated wreaths and trees, and then the silent auction will take place from Thursday night until Saturday night, November 19. Dale Blue will be here to entertain the crowd on Saturday while we find out who the lucky winners are!

We explained the big details in last week's blog "Join us For The 7th Annual Gala of Trees," but here are the basics. Various businesses have volunteered to decorate trees and wreaths donated by Lake Regional Hospital with all kinds of unique and exciting decorations. People from the lake area are encouraged to come in, check them all out, and then bid on their favorites. Winning bidders will get to take these pre-decorated beauties home with them when the auction is over.

Here is a peek at last year's Gala of Trees, followed by a little more information about the wonderful organizations that are donating the money raised to many local families needing a hand this holiday season.

Candyland
The 33rd Annual Candyland at the Lake of the Ozarks opens on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in the Stonecrest Mall, the day before the Gala of Trees at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. It is put on by the Lake Ozark Rotary to promote generosity during the Christmas season through gift donations for underprivileged children in the Lake area. People are encouraged to visit Candyland, pick one of more candy canes with children's Christmas wishes on them, purchase the items, and then return them for Candyland's Rotarian volunteers to wrap and deliver.

Proceeds from the Gala of Trees silent auction sales will go toward buying some of these gifts. The Lake Ozark Rotary's mission is for leaders to come together with a shared vision and cooperation making a difference through service above self.

The Idiots Club
This group describes themselves as "a charity dedicated to helping youth in need in the Lake area, while in the pursuit of silliness!" They make our community a better place, and they do it in a way that allows them to have fun while they're at it. The Lake of the Ozarks Idiots Club was founded by a couple of retired educators, Denny and Danna Hiner, who witnessed firsthand the problems that students dealt with on a daily basis.

According to their website, currently over 60% of the children in the lake area live at or below the federal poverty line. The group works through social agencies and civic groups, as well as many area schools, including School of the Osage, Camdenton, Climax Springs, and Macks Creek, to discover the needs of children in the area. In the past, they have been able to supply items such as shoes for sports, school art supplies, dental care, Buddy Packs food for kids, clothing, school club participation fees, car batteries for working kids, and much much more. Through the Gala of Trees, they are able to provide a happy holiday for families that might not otherwise have one at all. Idiots Club member, Christie Janssen, has organized the Gala of Trees from the beginning.

Join Us November 17-19
Our family friendly Lake of the Ozarks restaurant will be filled with some of the most incredible holiday decorations that you have ever seen from Thursday, November 17 through Saturday, November 19 this year. Please take some time to stop by Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, check out the amazing creations that have been donated, and spend a few dollars to make a local child's holiday special. We open daily at 11 am, and bidding will continue through Saturday evening when Dale Blue will be onstage entertaining the crowd. Begin your holiday season with us, and pick up a gorgeous pre-decorated tree or wreath while you are here.

Join Us For The 7th Annual Gala of Trees at the Boot!

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach has become the new home for one of the best annual events at the Lake of the Ozarks - the Gala of Trees! You don't have to go to the trouble of finding a naked Christmas tree and dragging out your big box of ornaments this year. Instead, purchase a fully decorated one that is already beautiful and ready to display, all while helping out a couple of wonderful local organizations.

Annual Gala of Trees
Every year since 2010, the lake area has been taking part in this incredible holiday event. It originally took place at Bootleggers Sports Book & Grill, but will be making its debut at Wobbly Boots BBQ for 2016. The restaurant will be filled with completely decorated trees and wreaths, and patrons will be invited to bid on them through a silent auction. The highest bidder at the end of the event will get to take their tree or wreath home to display throughout the holiday season.

You will see a wide variety of unique themes and unusual ornaments at the Gala of Trees. There is sure to be something perfect for everyone, no matter what your holiday decorating style may be. It's a great way to save some time this season, but even better, it's a wonderful way to brighten someone else's holiday at the same time. All of the proceeds collected from the tree and wreath sales are given to Candyland and the Idiot's Club. Both of these organizations use the money to provide toys for lake area children that might not otherwise receive gifts this season.

Thursday, Nov. 17
This 3-day event begins with the Gala of Trees Kickoff Party on Thursday beginning at 5 pm. Tickets are $20 each, and everyone in attendance will enjoy delicious appetizers and soups, one glass of Gala Punch, and the exclusive chance to win the Gala Christmas Wreath that will be given away that very evening at 9 pm. The remaining silent auction trees and wreaths will remain on display for bidders throughout Saturday night.

Friday & Saturday, Nov. 18-19
All day and night on both Friday and Saturday, everyone is welcome to pay a visit to the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks and check out these amazing, one-of-a-kind Christmas trees and holiday wreaths. The bidding is open to everyone, and the highest bid at the end of the day on Saturday will be declared the lucky winner.

To close out this awesome event with real style, we'll have the Barefoot Entertainer himself, Dale Blue, on stage Saturday night. Swing by, order up some dinner, and enjoy the entertainment while we wait to see who lays claim to these great holiday decorations.

You can help too!
The easiest way to help is by stopping by and making an impressive bid on one or more of the Gala trees. If you would like information about being a sponsor, please contact the event organizer, Christy Janssen, by calling 217-779-2768 or emailing cjanssen1970@gmail.com. Trees and wreaths are provided for you to decorate by Lake Regional Hospital. All you have to do is volunteer to provide the decorations, then put your imagination to work thinking up a design that will have everyone climbing over each other to bid on.

We can't wait to see the incredible trees and wreaths that everyone comes up with for Wobbly Boots Roadhouse's first time hosting the Gala of Trees. Be sure to mark your calendars now so that you don't miss a minute of the excitement!
