Labor Day Weekend - Only the Beginning of September Fun at the Lake

Some consider Labor Day weekend to be the last big weekend at the lake. While it is a big one, it's far from the last! Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has rounded up a list of some of the amazing things happening in the lake area during the month of September, beginning with Labor Day weekend and going way beyond that. The best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks does not shut down at the end of the summer season, so we'll be here to feed you after you enjoy each of the following events.

Labor Day Weekend
Sept. 1-4
Wobbly Boots BBQ is ready to host a large crowd of people over this holiday weekend, but don't forget, you can always get our mouthwatering BBQ to go too! Order up some tasty, hickory-smoked goodness to take along with you on the boat, for a picnic in the park, or even a big backyard gathering. Let us do the cooking, and you just enjoy the weekend!

If you're wanting to do a little lakeside dining, our sister restaurants should be at the top of your list. Shorty Pants Lounge & Marina offers the most amazing Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks, plus they have a full-service marina and gas dock to keep you stocked up for a day on the water. Dog Days Bar & Grill not only offers incredible lakeside dining, but also 2 brand new amazing pools (1 with a swim-up bar) and a Labor Day Log Jam at the Lake event on Saturday. Both places will have some of the best musicians headlining their stages too. Between the three of us, you definitely don't have to worry about going hungry or thirsty over the holiday weekend!

Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge
Sept. 9-10
The Hy-Vee/ Target parking lot will be home to this free community event. The challenge brings hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments together to compete in a series of games that demonstrate the rigor's of their physically demanding profession. This challenge has been seen on ESPN for years. This particular event will also host a Kids' Challenge, which is a mini-version of the main obstacle course.

11th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest

Sept. 13-17
This event, with more than 200 biker-friendly bars and restaurants involved, is too large to be contained in just one spot. You'll see exciting things happening all over the lake area, including the annual Passport Ride that includes a stop at our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant. Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the country will descend upon the lake area for scenic rides, live music, a Harley-Davidson bike giveaway, and much, much more!

Lake of the Ozarks Air Show

Sept. 23
The lake area knows how to put on entertaining shows in the water, on the land, and even in the air! The Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport will host a day of celebration for our military, aviation, and more from 7:30 am - 4 pm. Numerous air show acts will take place throughout the day, and there will be plenty to see on the ground too. There's even a giant Ping Pong Ball Drop where the kids can race to pick up balls dropped from a plane to win special prizes.

Pumkin Chunkin' Palooza

Sept. 30
This family friendly event is a great way to say good-bye to September and get ready for October's fall fun. This one takes place at Ozarks Amphitheater in Camdenton from 11 am - 6 pm. There will be face painting, a petting zoo, climbing wall, carnival rides, and more for the kids. The adults will be able to enjoy Missouri wine and craft beer tastings, and for everyone there will be food vendors, live music, games, hay rides, pumpkin decorating contests, and more. Of course, the main event involves pumpkins being launched and hurled through the air every hour. Quite a sight to see!

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, BBQ, Lake of the Ozarks

Labor Day weekend doesn't have to be seen as the end of summer, but rather the beginning of a month full of excitement here at the lake! Some of the waterfront attractions will begin shutting down during the weeks after the holiday, but our family friendly BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is open 7 days a week all year long. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is always here to feed you after a day full of fun at the lake, ready to hear tales of all the exciting events you enjoyed. A Unique & Delicious Sandwich - The Boot's Crusty Cuban

National Cuban Sandwich Day, August 23, popped up on our calendar at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse recently, so we decided to use it to feature our very own incredible Crusty Cuban Sandwich. Turns out, the holiday started as a hoax, but it is now here to stay. Why not? Every other food seems to get a special day, and if other Cuban sandwiches taste like the ones we make at our Lake of the Ozarks family restaurant, it deserves its own day!

The Creation of a Holiday
Just last year, a writer for the Tampa Bay Times decided to perform an experiment to see if people would celebrate a holiday that he made up. Christopher Spata took it upon himself to send press releases out to many news organizations, as well as online holiday databases, stating that National Cuban Sandwich Day was a real thing taking place every August 23. Many of those places went ahead and added the holiday to their calendars, no questions asked, and there were stories of it being celebrated in a few locations! I guess people are happy to have a reason to celebrate just about anything, they just need a little prompting!

Cuban Sandwich History
A Cuban Sandwich is a different take on a traditional ham and cheese sandwich. Ingredients originally included ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and salami on Cuban bread. The entire sandwich was toasted in a press, leaving the bread crispy and the cheese melted.

It originated in cafes that catered to Cuban workers in Key West and other communities in Florida where there were a lot of Cuban immigrants. It eventually made its way to Miami, where they took salami off of the sandwich, then slowly it was discovered by the rest of the United States. In 2011, organizers in Tampa held a Cuban Sandwich Festival, and in 2012, it was designated as the signature sandwich of Tampa Bay by the Tampa Bay Council.

The Boot's Crusty Cuban
Our version of the Cuban Sandwich, the "Crusty Cuban," can be found on the "Down Home Sandwiches & Wraps" portion of our menu. It may not be officially considered a BBQ item, but it does contain some of our amazing, hickory-smoked meats.

The two main ingredients are our House Pulled Pork and Pit Ham. We then add pickles, house mustard, and Swiss cheese and press the entire sandwich to perfection! It is served alongside one of our delicious home style side dishes. We highly suggest the Creamy Cole Slaw or Seasoned Curly Fries, but our Crusty Cuban tastes great with all of our savory side dishes.

Regardless of whether National Cuban Sandwich Day is a real food holiday or not, we definitely think this incredible creation is worth a try. The next time that you take a trip to the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, order yourself a Crusty Cuban. It's a unique sandwich that is sure to become one of your new Wobbly Boots Roadhouse favorites!

Why Kids LOVE Wobbly Boots Roadhouse

It's that time of year when kids begin trying to cram in as much end-of-summer fun as they can before school starts. You can help them out by bringing them to the best family friendly restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks for lunch or dinner. Not only do kids love the food at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach, but they can truly enjoy the experience too. Here are a few reasons why your kids will be excited about a trip to the Boot!

It's Messy!
Kids love getting messy, and eating BBQ is a great excuse to do just that! All of that savory, mouthwatering, hickory-smoked goodness we serve up with our very own house-made BBQ sauce is bound to end up on your hands and all around your mouth. This isn't the type of food you are careful with, but rather eat with reckless abandon and enjoyment! You can clean up when you're done. We've got plenty of wet wipes specifically for that.

Great Kids' Menu
Even if your children haven't developed a taste for full-on BBQ yet, our kids' menu offers lots of kid favorites, plus a few BBQ gateway foods to get those taste buds ready for the real thing.

  • Kids' Burger with fries
  • Kids' Chicken Tenders with fries
  • Grilled Cheese with fries
  • Mini Corn Dogs with fries
  • Cheese Quesadilla
  • Mac & Cheese Boat
  • Pork Sandwich with fries

Family Friendly Atmosphere
Once you set foot in our restaurant, you are welcomed as a part of our extended family. We've got plenty of seating to accommodate any size group, and even a cool "front porch" that kids really seem to love. The entire restaurant is non-smoking. (In respect to cigarettes, that is. There's a lot of hickory-smoking going on!)

We've also got 21 televisions, including our giant projection screen, conveniently placed all around the room. If you have a family full of sports fanatics, we've got the best place to watch sports at the Lake of the Ozarks. Cheering on your teams is encouraged!

There's Dessert!
If you aren't too stuffed after you eat, we've got some amazing dessert options to satisfy that sweet-tooth. You can even make plans to save room for dessert by taking part of your meal home in a doggy bag. (It makes great leftovers.)

  • Root Beer Float
  • Chocolate Cobbler
  • Rustic Apple Tart
  • Red Velvet Cheesecake
  • Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie
  • Islander Key Lime Pie
  • Premium Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Salted Vanilla Ice Cream

Mom & Dad Love It!
Best of all, our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant is one of the few places that grownups are thrilled to hear the kids suggest! We've got all the flavors you love, both out of the kitchen and behind the bar, and it's a place that everyone can agree on without a big debate.

So before school starts, get the family to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for a little end-of-summer fun. It's actually a great place to bring the family for a delicious and fun break any time because we're open all year long. No matter what the occasion, even if it's just because, our family is always thrilled to see your family.

7 Unbelievable Guinness World Records For BBQ

Our BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks has been piling up National Awards from prestigious barbecue contests around the country for over 20 years. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach may not have set any world records (yet!) but the following people did, and we thought our fellow BBQ fans would enjoy learning a bit more about them.

Largest Barbecue/Grilling Lesson
Just a few months ago, on April 27, 2017, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO, 336 participants took part in the largest grilling lesson ever given. Smithfield held this event to promote the launch of their new "Get Grilling America" campaign. Lessons were taught by 9-time world champion pitmaster Chris Lilly, Weber grillmaster Kevin Kolman, and special guest-chef Chris Jones, the Kansas City Chiefs' Defensive End and self-proclaimed BBQ fanatic.

Largest Barbecue (Dimensions)
Back in 2004 on June 20, the Discovery Channel's BIG! television show unveiled the world's largest barbecue. It measured 15 feet and 3.75 inches high, 20 feet and 2.25 inches wide, and 8 feet deep. The grill measured 96 square feet! They used this monster barbecue to cook a whole pig, a ten-foot hot dog, and four turkeys. We don't use equipment quite that large at the Boot, but the BIG flavor we produce might have you thinking that we do!

Longest Barbecue
At 20,246 feet in length, the people of Bayambang in the Philippines constructed the longest barbecue ever recorded. This took place during the Malangsi Fish-tival to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. 8,000 grills were connected, and they used 50,000 kg of fish, 2,000 kg of salt, 480 blocks of ice, and 6,000 bags of charcoal to create the meal served.

Largest Barbecue (Attendance)
When it comes to the size of the crowd rather than the size of the grill, the largest barbecue attendance recorded by Guinness World Records took place on August 18 2013. 45,252 people came to the event organized by Estado de Nuevo Leon at Parque Fundidora in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Largest Serving of BBQ'd Beef
General Pico, La Pampa, Argentina was the site of the largest serving of barbecued beef produced by Frigorifico General Pico and Municipalidad de General Pico for a 30th birthday celebration. This happened on March 20, 2011. Just over 30,231 pounds of raw beef were converted into a little more than 20,132 pounds of cooked meat to feed 20,000 people in attendance.

Categories for the largest servings of barbecued turkey and barbecued pork on Guinness World Records' website are still unclaimed, but there is an "Apply Now" button. I wonder how many people out there would like to see Wobbly Boots Roadhouse take on this world record?

Longest Barbecue Marathon (Team)
This world record happened recently too. On May 14, 2017, the team of Matteo Marras, Giovanni Meloni, and Pierfranco Ligios took place in a barbecue marathon that lasted 40 hours and 53 seconds! They did this in Sassari, Italy in honor of the opening of a new Mondo Covenienza store in that town.

Longest Barbecue Marathon (Solo)

Believe it or not, the barbecue marathon for this world record set by a single man went twice as long as the world record achieved by the team of three men above! After 80 hours of cooking, Jan Greeff, in association with Char-Broil, LLC, took the title in Columbus. Over the course of three days, Greeff produced 1,000 hot dogs, 200 pieces of corn, 104 pieces of chicken, 558 burgers, and 526 boereworse (a South African sausage.) All donations made by spectators during the setting of this record (over $10,000!) went to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Those are some pretty impressive feats, but when you're doing something you love, it's worth the extra effort. That's how we feel about the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks. Everyone involved with creating the mouthwatering meals we produce at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is extremely passionate about making it the best BBQ you've ever tasted. From timing the smoking process just right, adding the perfect amounts and kinds of spices and sauces, placing it on the plate, and even setting it down on your table, each step is completed with the utmost care. Until the rest of the world discovers how amazing we are, the Boot can be your very own little "Best in the Midwest" secret!
