Vodka Lesson
Vodka originates from the Slavic word "voda," which means water, but this spirit has a much more intensive kick than a glass of water! Plain vodka is generally odorless and colorless though, which gives it a slight similarity to water, but that's about all they have in common.
Vodka is traditionally made by the distillation of cereal grains or potatoes that have been fermented. Modern-day vodka makers tend to use other substances too, such as fruits or sugar. Many today come in a wide array of infused flavors, giving them a little life of their own which isn't dependent on a mixer.
Vodkas at the Boot
One of the reasons that we've got the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks is because it is fully stocked with a wide variety of each type of liquor. Some of them are even gluten-free! In addition to the regular well vodka we keep on hand, we've recently started stocking a gluten-free well vodka too. Here are the other amazing options you have when it comes to vodka at the Boot:
- Absolut
- Absolut Mandarin
- Absolut Citron
- Absolut Peppar
- Pinnacle
- Grape
- Cherry
- Blueberry
- Raspberry
- Vanilla
- Whipped
- Tito's (gluten-free)
- Grey Goose
- Grey Goose Cherry Noir
- Ketel One
- Jeremiah Weed
Popular Vodka Cocktails
Some flavored varieties are delicious simply on the rocks, and there are many people that love the original "flavor" on its own too. Vodka is also an ingredient in many popular cocktails, like these:
- Mules- A Moscow Mule is the drink you see people ordering that comes in that fancy copper mug. It usually consists of vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice, but we love them so much at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse we've come up with a few additional versions of our own definitely worth trying.
- Martinis - How do you like yours, shaken or stirred? A classic vodka martini is simply vodka and a dash of vermouth, chilled and garnished with an olive or lemon twist. There are all kinds of delicious martinis featuring many of the flavored vodkas that we carry that you can expand your martini repertoire with.
- Bloody Mary - This vodka cocktail makes a wonderful brunch drink and is sometimes considered a great hangover cure. A tomato-based mixer full of tasty spices is mixed with vodka to create this clever cocktail. Try it with Absolut Peppar for an extra flavorful kick!
- Russians - Vodka is often associated with the country of Russia, so we had to include the drink named after it. You can have it these three different ways: a Black Russian consists of vodka and Kahlua; a White Russian is the same thing with the addition of cream; and finally a Colorado Bulldog uses the White Russian recipe but adds a splash of Coke.
How do you like your vodka?
If you're a vodka fan, no matter what you mix it with (or don't) we highly suggest trying it alongside the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks! We've got lots of savory dishes to enjoy it with for National Vodka Day (and beyond,) and it's a great drink to enjoy while you're watching the game if you're not in a beer mood. Check out the extensive cocktail menu we've got at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse the next time you come in.
