BBQ is a fascinating subject for us here at the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks.  It's our passion on a daily basis, so how could we resist exploring the subject?  Below are a few fun facts that you probably didn't know.

1.  The Oxford English dictionary states that the word barbecue was first used in the English language by William Dampier, the "buccaneer, pirate, captain in the navy" in 1697.

2.  This subject is debated, but many language historians believe the word originally came from "barbacoa," meaning "sacred fire pit" in the language of Taino, used on the West Indian island of Hispaniola in the 17th century.

3.  People love bbq so much, the entire month of May was officially proclaimed to be National Barbecue Month by the National Barbecue Association.

4.  Barbecue sauce has been around for hundreds of years, and it originally contained mainly vinegar and pepper.  Now, the most common ingredient you will find in sauces is garlic, followed by brown sugar.

5.  The most popular bbq sauce flavors are:
hickory, mesquite, and honey.

6.  The most common woods used for grilling flavor are:  mesquite, hickory, maple, cherry, pecan, apple, and oak.

AquaPalooza

Our other "sis," Dog Days Bar and Grill, hosts the largest one-day family event at the Lake of the Ozarks with their giant concert on the water.  The stage can be seen from their lower deck and from all of the boats, waverunners, floaties... you name it... in the lake around their docks.  They have four amazing bands performing from noon until 5 pm; State Line Drive, Disco Dick and the Mirrorballs, Double Vision (Foreigner Tribute), and Members Only.  If you head over to Funlake.com/AquaPalooza you can even register to win a 2015 Yamaha Waverunner.  If you aren't lucky enough to make if there, you can listen live all day on Cool Radio 102.7 FM.

5 Health Benefits of Spicy Foods

Are you a heat-seeker?  Wobbly Boots Roadhouse not only has the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks, but our menu also boasts a few items for those that like to spice things up. Hot, spicy foods are not only delicious to eat, but there are actually some added health benefits.  These benefits may just be the excuse you were looking for to add a little heat to your diet.

Stress Relief

Spicy foods increase your body's production of "feel-good" hormones.  These endorphins are the body's natural pain medication and can reduce anxiety and stress, even easing the effects of depression.

Heart Health

Chili peppers can lower the effects of the damage that is done from "bad" cholesterol by increasing its breakdown rate.  The pepper's heat also increases blood flow, which improves heart function and helps to lower blood pressure.

Weight Loss

Studies have been done that prove that the spicy chemical in peppers - capasaicin - boosts your metabolism.  The effect can last up to 20 minutes after you have eaten.  Spicy foods also help you to feel full and they reduce cravings for salty, sweet, and fatty foods.

Eases congestion

The discomfort from clogged nasal passages can be lightened by eating spicy foods because they thin the mucus.  You have most likely experienced watery eyes and a runny nose if you have braved eating something super-hot.  This heat can also help with respiratory problems like bronchitis and even asthma.

Cancer Prevention

The American Association for Cancer Research has stated that the capsaicin in peppers has the ability to kill some cancer and leukemic cells.  It creates a reaction that lowers the risk of tumors too.

So come on in to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse and order up some hot stuff.  A few of our fiery choices are our Hot Cheesy Stripper and Buffalo Chicken Wrap, both covered in our spicy Hot chipotle sauce, or the El Diablo Burger.  This big boy boasts ghost pepper cheese, jalapenos, and our zesty 6-pepper sauce.  Betcha' that one works up a sweat!

Head on over to the best BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks and get your spice on.  Brave one of our red-hot choices and we'll be sure to have an ice cold beverage standing by.
