A Little Sandwich History
The general term of "sandwich" is said to be named in honor of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. People claim that Lord Sandwich invented the food combination of placing meat between two slices of bread. The rumor is debatable, but it makes a pretty interesting story.

Apparently the Earl was an avid gambler and did not want to take time away from the gambling table to eat a meal during his many hours of play. He would instead have his servants bring him meat between bread slices, and it caught on when others at the table began ordering "the same as Sandwich." Another account suggests that Lord Sandwich was so committed to work that it was his desk that he didn't want to leave.

Sandwiches at the Boot
The first section of our Sandwiches & Wraps portion of the menu features our down-home selections. You can order one of the amazing creations listed below, and we'll throw in one of our incredible side dishes to go along with it!

March Madness is Taking Over the Boot!

March Madness has taken over Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach. The tournament continues this week, getting us ever closer to crowning the 2017 NCAA Men's Basketball Champions. Hopefully your bracket is still intact, but even if it's not, you'll still have an incredible time when you join us at the best place to watch sports at the Lake of the Ozarks

The Beginning of March Madness
The very first NCAA men's basketball tournament took place in 1939, with the University of Oregon defeating Ohio State University 46-33. Only 8 teams were invited to participate for the first 12 years. Today, we start with 68 teams in 4 divisions for this single-elimination tournament, whittling them down to the Sweet 16, then the Elite 8, followed by the Final 4, and then the final game to decide the National Championship.

In 1982, the first NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament took place, starting with just 32 teams competing. 64 teams are now included in the initial round of games, and the structure is similar to the men's tournament. The women play their championship game the day after the men's title game, closing out the college basketball season.

The 2017 Tournament So Far
The Sweet 16 begins on Thursday and continues on Friday, with the Elite 8 winners being decided on Saturday and Sunday. We'll have all the games for you, and here is when they'll be taking place.

Double the Cheers!
We've got both kinds here at Wobbly Boots BBQ: the cheers you hear when a bunch of basketball fans get together to root their team on, and the kind you make with a drink from the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks. With a fully stocked bar and 21 beers on tap, we've definitely got the drinks covered.

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Lake of the Ozarks

You don't have to sit at the bar to get a good view of the games when you're at the Boot. We have 21 TVs located all around the restaurant, including our giant projection screen. Bring the whole gang along with you, because we've got plenty of room for everyone.

Great Game Food
Our appetizer menu is filled with incredible plates full of deliciousness to chow down on while you watch your team. If you're here for all the games, you're going to want to order some dinner, too. A great big, juicy burger, our Prime Rib dinner, or the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks is sure to keep your energy high and your appetite satisfied.

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Lake of the Ozarks

There's not a bad seat in the house when you watch the games at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. Call up your friends, load your family of sports fans in the car, and all of you can join us for a weekend full of the most exciting college basketball of the year.

Corned Beef & Cabbage On St. Pat's Is NOT An Irish Tradition!

This Friday, March 17, 2017, the Lake of the Ozarks' best BBQ restaurant will be adding Corned Beef & Cabbage to our menu for one day only. The reason for this is that St. Patrick's Day in America has become synonymous with this particular delicious dish. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse decided to dig up a little history about it for you, and we found out something very surprising...

The Irish Don't Eat It!
Well, they may eat corned beef and cabbage on occasion, but they won't be going out of their way to make it for St. Patrick's Day. That food is actually a tradition that Americans have pinned onto the holiday.

Ireland was a major producer of salted meat going all the way back to the Middle Ages, but these meats were almost all for trade only. They were considered a luxury to eat in Ireland, much too expensive for most Irish people to purchase. Instead, they were left to consume the cheaper cuts of meat produced by their country. Salted pork, which is similar to Canadian bacon, was most often eaten there.

When Irish immigrants made their way to America in the 19th century, the closest thing they could find here to their salted pork was bacon. Unfortunately, that was a very expensive cut of meat on this side of the pond. Ironically, the lower-priced meat that they were able to afford here was corned beef! What was once a luxury to eat was now the most affordable and readily available food.

Traditional Corned Beef & Cabbage
Even though St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday that we enjoy celebrating here in the United States, eating corned beef & cabbage for the holiday came from our association with Irish-Americans consuming the dish all those years ago.

As for the cabbage we always serve our corned beef with, that pairing was made for the simple reason that it was one of the cheapest vegetables available to the Irish immigrants. The pair became popular together, and today we wouldn't think of having one without the other.

Corned Beef & Cabbage at the Boot
On St. Patrick's Day this year, you'll be able to taste one more way that Wobbly Boots Roadhouse excels at preparing brisket! We'll be serving our own version of Corned Beef & Cabbage that you'll not only love, but you'll be craving all year long until we whip it up again next year!

This is, of course in addition to our everyday menu that is still available, and since it's a Friday, we'll have our famous smoked Prime Rib dinner after 5:00 pm. Happy Hour will be happening from 3-6 pm on St. Patrick's Day, and we'll have the talented Brett Gardener on stage at our family restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks starting at 9:00 pm. We're sending out a great big "Happy St. Patrick's Day" to all of you, and if you spend part of it with us here at the Boot, you know it will be a happy one!

Be a Part of Team Shannon at This Silent Auction Benefit April 8, 2017

Our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant is happy to be able to provide you with a delicious experience when you go out to eat, but sometimes it's not all about the food. We get to know our repeat customers pretty well, and after a while, they start to feel like a part of the Wobbly Boots Roadhouse family. When one of our "family" is in need, it makes us feel good to be able to help where we can.

A wonderful young woman in our community, Shannon Miller, was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. Her friends and family decided to throw a silent auction benefit on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 3:30-5:30 pm. The money raised will help to pay for the expenses that come along with treatment, and Wobbly Boots Roadhouse was more than happy to offer a place to host it.

Shannon is a homemaker to three beautiful children, and even cares for friends' children on occasion. She lives at home with her high school sweetheart turned husband, Brandon. Shannon is currently employed with Staunton Hospital and plans to work as long as her health allows. Chemotherapy and radiation treatment will be necessary 5 days a week for 5 weeks at St. Mary's Hospital, and additional treatments may be needed.

Prayers, kindness, and support for Shannon and her family are greatly appreciated, and if you have a chance to attend the benefit night at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, that would be wonderful too. A large number of silent auction items have been donated already, and more will be added over the next few weeks.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing that evening. You don't have to be present to win, and if you would like to purchase 50/50 tickets, Call Jackie Miller at 573-2126-9280 or Rick Miller at 573-836-0760. These tickets are $1 each, or you can buy 6 for $5.

Just as the benefit flyer states, "When our community comes together, we become one family." Join Team Shannon for an afternoon of friendship, companionship, and support at our family friendly Lake of the Ozarks restaurant

Good food, good people, and fundraising for a great cause will be happening that day. If you would like to help by donating a silent auction item, you can contact Jackie or Rick at the phone numbers above. We hope to see many of our extended family here on Saturday, April 8, showing support for a wonderful young woman and her family.

The Many Reasons That Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is the Best at the Lake of the Ozarks

Lake Lifestyles magazine hosts the "Best of the Lake" survey at this time every year, and Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is thrilled to be featured in multiple categories! All of you deserve a great big thank you for nominating us and keeping your favorite restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks in the running. Voting takes place now through March 10, 2017, and here are all of the ways that we are have been nominated as the "Best of the Lake."

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, Lake of the Ozarks

Best BBQ
Our cooking style was inspired by the BBQ meccas of the United States: Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, and Texas. We combined the genius of those experts to create the hybrid-style, hickory-smoked deliciousness that provides you with the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks. To top it all off, literally, we add our very own, house-made BBQ sauce. Simply irresistible!

Best Ribs

One of the most popular items on our BBQ menu is our incredible ribs. We begin by coating them with a special dry rub. The Baby Back Ribs are then slow-smoked, lightly grilled, and basted with our secret recipe sauce. The juicy Classic Pork Spare Ribs are slow roasted to perfection over hickory logs, and both dishes can be ordered as a full or half slab.

Best Chicken Wings
Those hickory logs in our smoker also help to create the most amazing, smoked chicken wings that the lake area has ever tasted! That flavor alone is enough to please any wing lover, but we also have 4 unbelievable wing sauces for you to choose from: BBQ, Original, Chipotle Buffalo, and Teriyaki.

Best Nachos

Great nachos don't have to be made in a Mexican restaurant. We add one of our savory smoked meats along with some other unique toppings to create a flavor that people come back for over and over. Our BBQ Pork Nachos feature tri-colored tortilla chips covered with spicy queso sauce, and then we top it all with pulled pork, baked beans, cheddar-jack cheese, tomatoes, jalapenos, and onions. Yum!

When you dine with us, you'll find a family-friendly, down home atmosphere with the best customer service and friendliest staff in town. We want you to feel like a part of the family while you're here.

Best Server
Last year's Best Server at the Lake of the Ozarks is nominated again this year, and that just happens to be our very own Jessica Simpson! Her friendly, helpful attitude and overall awesomeness for taking care of customers at the Boot is a big reason why many people keep coming back. She gets better and better every year, so a vote for Jess again this year is definitely the right call.

Best Caterer (x 2)
This year their are two separate categories for best caterer, one in restaurants and one in weddings, and we made it onto both lists! The Barrett Restaurant Group, made up of yours truly, Dog Days Bar & Grill, and Shorty Pants Lounge, is the driving force behind the amazing tastes that we have to offer for any type of event or celebration. Let us know what you're in the mood for, and we'll bring it over and serve it up to you hot, fresh, and delicious.
