The Boot Makes National Celery Month Worth Celebrating

Sure, it may seem strange to see a BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks talking about celery, but bear with us. March happens to be National Celery Month and your friends at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse have actually found a way to make that exciting! Alone, celery leaves the taste buds longing, but we've paired it with two menu items that make it a lot more exciting. 

Celery
Alone, celery is pretty boring for the most part but it does contain vitamins and minerals that your body needs. It is also a good source of fiber and a nice crunchy snack if you're trying to eat lighter and healthier. That being said, it's WAY better when you use it for dipping into another food so that there is actually flavor involved. It's also the perfect veggie to bring out the flavor in two popular Wobbly Boots Roadhouse menu items.  

Celery + Wobbly Wings
Why in the world do juicy, flavorful, lick-your-lips wings usually come with celery on the plate? Well, there are actually a few great reasons to have the green vegetable there for your culinary enjoyment. 

The crunch is a nice contrast to the meatiness of that perfectly hickory-smoked wing. Dipped in ranch or bleu cheese, they are excellent for cooling off your mouth after a spicy bite. Last, but certainly not least, the green of the celery nicely compliments the color of the wings on the plate. Without celery, the wings would be every bit as good, but it is a nice addition to the overall flavor experience.    

Celery + Vodka
Most cocktails get a garnish of at least a lemon, a lime, or possibly a cherry. The Bloody Mary has evolved into a drink that some people seem to think should have an entire meal as a garnish! A lime and a single stalk of celery are plenty to give this "hair-of-the-dog" cocktail a little something extra.

Much like with the wings, celery is a nice, cooling palate cleanser if you like your Bloody Marys on the spicy side. It makes a perfect edible stir stick for the drink too and the red and green go together beautifully, making the cocktail both tasty and attractive.

Even though celery is not the star of the show when it comes to the menu items Wobbly Boots BBQ has paired it with, you've gotta admit, if the celery wasn't there you just might miss it. For example, our Wobbly Boots Sampler pictured above looks a little more dressed up with those lovely, tall, green stalks of celery breaking up the brown. As an added bonus, you get to enjoy a giant plate of the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks and/or a refreshing Bloody Mary and still feel good that you got in a serving of veggies while you did it!

3 Excellent Reasons to Enjoy an Ice-Cold Beer at the Boot This Weekend!

There's something indescribably delicious about washing down the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks with an ice-cold beer. Most people don't need any more reason to make that happen other than it sounds, and tastes, great. If you need a little more incentive to get off the couch and get yourself to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse to enjoy one of our 21 beers on tap, then this is the weekend you've been waiting for! 

Friday is New Beer's Eve
April 6th is the unofficial holiday celebrated by beer-lovers everywhere to commemorate the night before beer could once again be sold legally after the repeal of Prohibition. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act on March 23, 1933, followed by his famous remark, "I think this would be a good time for a beer." 

He, along with everyone else, had to wait until April 7, 1933, before this was legally allowed. On the night before, April 6, lines of anxious people began forming outside of breweries and taverns, eagerly awaiting the stroke of midnight when they could buy a beer for the first time (legally) in over 13 years. Luckily, today we don't have to wait for midnight. We can celebrate this important moment in American history all day long!   

Saturday is National Beer Day
Saturday the celebration continues! Since April 7th was the official day when beer could once again be purchased, this date is now a holiday celebrated all across the United States. Beleive it or not, it took until 2009 before someone had the good sense to bring some attention to the date. 

National Beer Day was first created by Justin Smith of Richmond, VA only 9 years ago in 2009. Smith's friend convinced him to dedicate a Facebook page to the day, and that page was noticed by Colorado Beer Examiner, Eli Shayotovich. After Smith began promoting the day on various social media outlets, his efforts were rewarded with the beer drinking app "Untapped" creating a badge especially for National Beer Day. #NationalBeerDay has been trending ever since. 

The holiday was officially recognized by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe in 2017, as well as on the Congressional Record by Congressman Dave Brat that same year. Just this year, in 2018, House Joint Resolution 90 was introduced in Virginia General Assembly to officially recognize National Beer Day in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It took a while, but now you can come into the Boot and celebrate this old/new holiday here with us!

It's NCAA Tournament Time at the Boot

Are you ready for some basketball... a LOT of great basketball!?! The NCAA tournament race to become the best college basketball team in the nation has begun, and the best place to watch sports at the Lake of the Ozarks is right here at the Boot! That means, for the next few weeks we expect to see all of you college basketball fans even more than usual at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. 

The 2018 Tournament So Far
On Thursday, March 15 at 11:15 am, the first round of the tournament will get underway with Oklahoma taking on Rhode Island. Games will be going on all day long, with the day's final game beginning just before 9 pm. 

The timing is perfect because Wobbly Boots BBQ opens our doors 7 days a week at 11 am, so you are welcome to spend the entire day here with us munching on BBQ and sipping on ice cold drinks from the bar while you catch every moment of tournament action. Here's a look at the first round schedule for the next couple of days. (Click on the schedules to enlarge them.

The very first NCAA men's basketball tournament in 1939 ended with the University of Oregon defeating Ohio State University 46-33. At that time, only 8 teams were invited to participate. 

Today, 68 teams are invited to compete in this single-elimination tournament. UCLA has the most titles to date with 11, followed by Kentucky with 8. North Carolina comes in third with 6 titles, the last of which they won in 2017. Who do you think will take home the trophy this year? It's going to be a lot more fun finding out when you watch with us!

Watching Basketball at the Boot
Since the tournament action goes on all day long, we've got the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks for you for lunch, dinner, and all the snacking you can handle in between! Our Next Bourbon Pairing Dinner Features Wild Turkey

It's time once again to reserve a ticket for Wobbly Boots Roadhouse's next Bourbon Pairing Dinner! This is an incredible evening at our Lake of the Ozarks restaurant with a very special menu, each course paired with a delectable bourbon. This month those bourbons will be from the Wild Turkey family. 

Reserve Your Tickets Early
This delicious evening will happen on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Dinner is served in our private room next to the fireplace and will consist of two seatings - 5:30 pm and 8:15 pm. Tickets are $50 each, and you can pick yours up in advance at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. We highly suggest getting them early because seating will be limited and this event could very likely sell out!

Wild Turkey Family Bourbons
Wild Turkey is an authentic Kentucky bourbon that has stayed true to a tradition that dates back before Prohibition. They stand apart from other bourbons because they use only premium ingredients to create it, select barrels to age it in, and lots and lots of patience before they break into it. 

Straight bourbon only has to be aged 2 years to qualify for that title, but Wild Turkey is never poured until it is has been aged at least 5 years, and often it's longer than that. Every bourbon produced by this incredible company is aged inside an American White Oak barrel with a No 4 "alligator" char, which is the deepest available. This process lends to their signature amber color and bold, rich flavor. The water used comes from the Kentucky River, which is naturally filtered through limestone, removing iron and other impurities. Their original yeast strain is still used to this day, and you will never find a genetically modified grain used to make their signature bourbon. It's all non-GMO, natural, and authentic.

Wild Turkey's master distiller, Jimmy Russell, is the world's longest-tenured active master distiller and has been at it for over 60 years. His son, Eddie Russell, was promoted to master distiller alongside his dad 3 years ago and has been with Wild Turkey for 35 years himself. They are the only father and son duo of bourbon master distillers in the world, and each has created some of Wild Turkey's most amazing varieties. During the bourbon pairing dinner at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, these are the bourbons we will be picking from. 

Russell’s Reserve
The Wild Turkey Master Distiller drinks this as his everyday whiskey. Small-batched and aged 10 years, the juice is worlds different than regular Wild Turkey. It blooms nicely and becomes quite floral with just a small amount of water. Holds well in cocktails, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better sipping whiskey for the price.

Wild Turkey 101
Sweet notes of vanilla, maple, and cinnamon are nicely contrasted with oakiness, spice, and char. ... Spice, pepper, and oak dominate over the palate's sweeter notes. The alcohol taste is definitely more noticeable in Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon than the company's other brands.

Wild Turkey 81
A lower strength bourbon from Wild Turkey, bottled at 81 proof (40.5% abv) and created by Eddie Russell, this has a high rye content in the mash bill and is aged in casks with a heavy char - the result of which is huge flavor and complexity without the same heat as the 101 proof.

Wild Turkey American Honey
A quality bourbon liqueur made with Wild Turkey Kentucky Bourbon and pure honey. American Honey was named as the World's Best Whisky Liqueur three years in a row.

Wild Turkey Rye
Straight Rye Whiskey is an 81 proof (40.5% alcohol) ode to America's first distilled spirit: rye whiskey. When making Wild Turkey Rye, that deeper “alligator” char gives it extra flavor. Big, broad vanilla and spice notes burst through without changing the bold rye taste.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Wild Turkey Rare Breed was upped in strength to 56.4% in 2015. Blended from barrels of 6-12-year-old bourbon and bottled at barrel proof with no added water, Rare Breed has a rich, yet mellow flavor despite its high alcohol content.

Many people already enjoy joining us for the best Happy Hour at the Lake of the Ozarks for the great company, a bit of relaxation, and some incredible food and drink specials. The Best New Year's Eve Party at the Lake of the Ozarks

What are your plans for ringing in 2018? If you want them to include an appearance at the best New Year's Eve Party at the Lake of the Ozarks, then you're definitely going to want to finish reading today's blog. Once again this year we're planning a great big, exciting, New Year's Eve bash at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, and the only way to make it more fun is to get you here with us! 

Great Music
We'll be serving up all of your favorite Wobbly Boots BBQ favorites until 10 pm as usual, and once the kitchen closes the party starts! (The bar, of course, will be open all night long!) DJ Christian Guerrero will be playing all of the best music from 10 pm - 1 am so you can dance your way straight into 2018.  

2 Grand Prize Giveaways
This year's New Year's Eve Party will allow two lucky winners to take home tickets to two exciting events coming up in the next couple of months. (Now that's an awesome way to start a new year!) You could win free passes to either our 1st whiskey pairing dinner of the year in January or the Mardi Gras pre-party at Dog Days in February.  

First of all, the two tickets for the whiskey dinner pairing at the Boot on January 10, 2018, will also come with a bottle of bourbon for the winner to take home. (You know, to practice for the dinner!) There will be an expert on hand to guide you through the whiskey pairings that go along with the special courses our chef is cooking up. We'll have more details about this event for you soon, but for now, know that if you don't win these tickets, you'll want to reserve your spot ASAP! Seating will be limited, and tickets are $50 each.

The other tickets we're giving away are for a special one-night-only winter party on Friday, February 16, 2108, at Dog Days Bar & Grill the night before the 2018 Lake of the Ozarks Mardi Gras Pub Crawl. They are normally closed this time of year but decided to open their doors to throw this incredible pre-party. The 90's hip-hop band "Dope Ass Sneakers" will open up the live music portion of the night at 8 pm. They will be followed by a crowd favorite from the last 2 AquaPaloozas, the "Mixtapes!" Tickets will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and they will only be selling a limited amount of them.   

Champagne at Midnight
Our fully stocked bar will be open and serving all of your favorite cocktails all evening long. As always, you can enjoy 21 refreshing beers on tap plus the coldest bottles of beer in town. Once the clock strikes 12, everyone partying here with us will share a champagne toast to say goodbye to 2017 and welcome a brand new year full of possibilities!

Groovy Phrases To Use At Our Far Out Pub Crawl! ✌️

The Lake Stock Fall Crawl is happening this Saturday, November 4, 2017, and your favorite BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is once again one of the exciting stops on the pub crawl route. Last week we filled you in on the Pub Crawl details, and this week we want to make sure that you're truly ready for a groovy-good time at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, so we've got a few phrases you can use to get your "Lake Stock" vibe going. 

There are all kinds of cool words and phrases that were used most often in the era of bell bottoms, Flower Power, peace, and love, which happens to be the ongoing theme of the Lake Stock Fall Crawl. According to www.CoolestWords.com, the following are the Top 15 Slang Words of the 70's. Think you can work them into a conversation Saturday night?  

• PSYCHE!

• WHAT A FRY
• Used to describe something or someone that blows your mind, that is weird or crazy. "You haven't heard about the Lake Stock Fall Crawl? What a fry man!" 

Do Us a Solid...

and make your plans now to join us this Saturday, November 4 for one of the best annual events at the Lake of the Ozarks. There are 10 stops on this year's route, but you're going to want to spend most of your time at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. Not only do we have the best bartenders and most awesome atmosphere, but we've also got Funhouse rocking our stage all night long!

You will need a $10 wristband to get into all of the participating stops after 7 pm, and that wristband will also get you onto the buses shuttling partiers around the route all evening. Wristbands can be purchased here at the Boot, any of the other Lake Stop Fall Crawl stops, and also Sunshine Daydreams on the Bagnell Dam Strip.
