Join Us For Catfish Month at the Boot

We're willing to bet that you had no idea August is National Catfish Month. It was news to us here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse too but now that we know, it gives us the perfect opportunity to focus on a menu item many don't even realize we offer.

It's a well-known fact that your favorite BBQ restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is an expert at hickory-smoked meats. Today we're here to tell you how incredible our catfish dishes are as well.

Catfish at the Boot
The menu at Wobbly Boots BBQ features catfish in two of our tasty menu items. One in sandwich form and the other as a hearty dinner plate.

Catfish BLT
A southern-style catfish filet coated in seasoned cornmeal and fried to a golden brown. It's served on a hoagie with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and Cajun mayo alongside one of our homestyle side dishes.

Catfish Dinner
Two delicious southern-fried catfish filets served with tartar sauce and a slice of lemon. The dinner also comes with Texas toast and your choice of one of our homestyle side dishes.

Did You Know...
National Catfish Month has been around since 1988. It was created to recognize both the industry surrounding the fish and the fact that it's a versatile and sustainable food available year-round. You probably already know it's incredibly delicious, but here are a few more fun facts that may be news to you.

While June 25 is observed as National Catfish Day, the entire month of August is dedicated to this tasty fish.
The name catfish was given to them because of the long barbels around the fish's mouth that resemble the whiskers of a cat.
They don't have scales! All catfish (there are nearly 2,900 species of them) are either naked or armored.
While wild catfish are bottom feeders, farm-raised catfish are taught to eat pellets that float on top of the water.
The largest catfish ever caught happened in 2005 in Northern Thailand. It weighed in at 646 pounds and was 9 feet long! (That's as big as a grizzly bear!)
Legend says that giant man-eating catfish live deep below Bagnell Dam, but divers swear it's just a myth. (Or is it...) The largest catfish ever caught in the Lake of the Ozarks (on record) was 103 pounds and nowhere near big enough to swallow a diver.
In the Southern United States, slang names for catfish include "mud cat, "polliwogs," and "chuckleheads."
Catfish are high in protein and contain no carbohydrates. They are also an excellent source of B Vitamins and phosphorus.

Happy Catfish Month! Celebrate Right Here at the Boot

August is National Catfish Month, as well as National Fishing Month. You can skip the work involved with fishing but still enjoy the delicious taste of fish by ordering one of the seafood dishes we have to offer on our Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant menu. You will find salmon on our menu too, but since it's Catfish Month, that's the fish we'll be focusing on today.

The Benefits of Eating Catfish
It is recommended that you eat seafood 2-3 times a week for a healthy diet. Catfish, in particular, is low in calories and a great way to boost your intake of healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Catfish is a complete protein, providing you with all of the amino acids your body needs in a day. That helps your body to build lean muscle mass and also improves the effectiveness of your immune function. This tasty fish can provide you with nearly half of the recommended daily intake of vitamin B-12 too.

Fun Catfish Facts
Now that you know a little bit about how healthy eating catfish can be, here are a few intriguing facts that you might be interested to know.

Catfish are meat-eaters, dining on things like other fish, insects, worms, frogs, and newts.
Wild catfish are bottom feeders, but farm-raised catfish are taught to eat feed pellets that float on top of the water.
Catfish can have over 100,000 taste buds located not just in their mouth, but all over their body!
The greatest concentration of their sensory organs is located on the cat-like whiskers known as barbels, and catfish can develop up to 4 pairs of these.
Females lay eggs, but it's the male that takes care of the eggs and the young fish.
"Noodling" is the act of placing your arm inside a catfish hole and catching the fish when it puts its mouth around your bare hand. (Would you ever try this?)
Some say monster-sized catfish live below Bagnell Dam. What do you think?
