How to Have a Fantastic 4th of July Meal at the Lake of the Ozarks

The 4th of July is a great time to gather with family and friends, get outdoors, and enjoy the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks. You don't have to mess with cooking that BBQ though. Instead, give us a call, let us know what you need, and pick up your food at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Osage Beach. There are lots of ways to do this. Here are a few. 

Pack a Picnic

A 4th of July picnic is a wonderful idea. You provide the picnic basket and we'll provide the delicious dishes to pack inside it! Simply give us a call with your to-go order and the time that you want to pick it up. We'll have your food hot and ready for you when you come in. You can take your order to the picnic table of your choice in town and enjoy a meal full of flavor with no work on your part. (Except, of course, packing it perfectly into that basket!) 

Throw a Party
If you want to celebrate the 4th of July with more than just your immediate family or closest friends, we can take care of the cooking for your big event with the best catering at the Lake of the Ozarks. We offer a number of hickory-smoked meat selections in bulk, as well as the savory homestyle side dishes to go along with them. 

Not only can you get amazing BBQ for your party, but we are a part of the Barrett Restaurant Group, meaning you also have the talents of the chefs from Dog Days Bar & Grill and Shorty Pants Lounge at your disposal. If the weather is simply too hot, or (heaven forbid) this Independence Day is a rainy one, join us indoors at our Lake of the Ozarks family BBQ restaurant instead. With the 4th of July happening on a Wednesday this year, we're ready to keep the celebration happening all week long! The best part of dining here with us is that you can also catch all the games on our 21 TVs located all around the restaurant and bar area plus our giant projection screen.

July is Full of Fun Events and Celebrations

The Lake is already buzzing with excitement about the upcoming Fourth of July weekend! This is the biggest holiday of the Summer, and we can't wait for it to get here.  We'll still be offering up the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks, playing all of your favorite games on our many tvs, and serving up those refreshing drinks that you love from our bar.  The fourth will bring lots of opportunities to watch fireworks at the Lake, and both of our sister restaurants have incredible events planned.  July is gonna be awesome!

Fireworks

The Lake of the Ozarks seems to have fireworks going on everywhere on the 4th, and a few places are even hosting celebrations early on the 3rd.  There is lots of time for fun when a holiday actually falls right in the center of a weekend. You can see a complete list of Lake of the Ozarks fireworks and celebrations at Funlake.com.  There are three cruises going out on the water to view the fireworks too.  The Celebration is leaving from the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, the Tropic Island from Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, and Playin' Hooky Water Taxi from Millstone Marina in Gravois Mills.  Watching fireworks from the water makes them even more incredible, but these book up fast, so if you're interested you need to make reservations right away.  Their info is also on the Funlake list.

Shorty Pants Lounge 10 Year Anniversary

Yes, our favorite Cajun sister restaurant is turning the big 1-0, and they are celebrating with an all-American crawfish boil.  Jim Beam, ice cold beer, Hurricanes, and spicy crawfish for an incredible night of eating, drinking, and celebrating.  Dustin Clark will take the stage to entertain the crowd when the boiling starts at 6 pm.

AquaPalooza

Our other "sis," Dog Days Bar and Grill, hosts the largest one-day family event at the Lake of the Ozarks with their giant concert on the water.  The stage can be seen from their lower deck and from all of the boats, waverunners, floaties... you name it... in the lake around their docks.  They have four amazing bands performing from noon until 5 pm; State Line Drive, Disco Dick and the Mirrorballs, Double Vision (Foreigner Tribute), and Members Only.  If you head over to Funlake.com/AquaPalooza you can even register to win a 2015 Yamaha Waverunner.  If you aren't lucky enough to make if there, you can listen live all day on Cool Radio 102.7 FM.

Classic American Food on the 4th of July

It's the 4th of July so Party like a Patriot!   There are American Flags adorning porches, red/white/blue are the colors of the day, families are BBQing and picnicking, and there are fireworks over the Lake. Classic American traditions bring a sense of pride and patriotism and include the food we eat over this holiday. The Wobbly Boots team thought it would be fun to explore the roots of some classic American food to get us ready!

The Hot Dog - the true American classic!!! Many believe that the wife of Antonoine Feuchtwanger came up with the concept of a "hot dog on a bun" and sold them right here in Missouri on the streets of St Louis in 1880.  Originally, Mrs. Feuchtwanger (Gotta love the name) used white gloves to serve the "bunless" hot dogs to her customers, but found that her customers kept taking the white gloves to avoid burning their hands.  As a solution, Feuchtwanger came up with the idea of using the bun to hold the hot dog and keep her customers coming back for more.  Not only is the hot dog a staple item for every cookout but the spirit and history behind this entrepreneur make the Hot Dog a Classic American Tradition. 

The American BBQ - whether you are referring to the cooking technique or the social gathering, BBQ resonates "All-American".  This tradition has been around since the 16th century and can be traced back to South Carolina.  The Indians first introduced the concept of slow cooking with smoke to the Spanish immigrants and in the early 16th century, Europeans learned to prepare "real" barbecue.   The love of barbecue has spread to national competitions and events all over the United States like The American Barbecue Contest held in MO and Memphis in May festival in Tennessee.  Just ask about our award winning BBQ and we will show you our trophies!!

The All-American Hamburger - you won't find too many cookouts that don't offer a juicy grilled burger at their 4th of July celebration.  This classic item dates back to the 18th century and was introduced to the United States by the German Immigrants.  The burger was a standard meal among the poorer classes in the seaport town of Hamburg, Germany where it acquired the name Hamburg Steak.   In the streets of New York, food stands would offer the "steak cooked in the Hamburg Style" to attract the German Sailors.  Soon the food became an American favorite and was first listed on an American menu in 1826 at Delmonico's in New York.  Come try some of the best burgers at the lake of the ozarks at Wobbly Boots...you won't be disappointed.

"As American as Apple Pie" -  Apple pie was a common desert served in the early colonies in the18th century but the saying become popular in the19th century.  This saying implied that something or someone was truly "American".  The saying, as well as apple pie, was tied to American prosperity and national pride.  American soldiers asked why they were going to war during WWII often answered "for Mom and apple pie" which created an even stronger bond between American tradition and the pastry.  Throw you diet aside and strengthen your American roots this fourth of July by diving into a slice of good 'ole American Apple pie!!  (Photo by Scott Bauer)
